Cue the sad Charlie Brown music: Far Cry 3 has been delayed.

IGN is reporting that Ubisoft’s upcoming first-person shooter is being pushed back to November 29 in the UK and December 4 here in the States.

Far Cry 3 producer Dan Hay was quoted as saying the development team is “taking more time to create the best possible gameplay experience.”

I can understand the occasional game delay in order to polish up a title before release, especially when it’s a highly-anticipated title. Far Cry 3 is such a title, so much so that it scored a spot in my Top 5 of E3 2012 list.

While I understand this situation, I’m not taking this news any easier.

I just want to play this friggin’ game already!

One of the biggest mysteries behind the new Tomb Raider reboot has been solved: the character of Lara Croft will be played by actress Camilla Luddington.

Luddington is best known for her performances in Californication and the TV movie William & Kate. She also can be seen in the current season of True Blood.

The actress will be not only providing Lara’s spoken dialogue, but she also provided the motion-capture performance for Croft.

Tomb Raider is due for release in March 2013 for PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

It’s a fact that Crystal Dynamics has taken a drastically different approach with the Tomb Raider reboot. What seems to be up for debate is whether or not the upcoming action game contains a scene depicting attempted rape.

Kotaku reported on Monday that Tomb Raider producer Ron Rosenberg made a comment during E3 that Lara Croft will be in danger of being raped in a specific scene in the game.

Predictably, the internet didn’t take too kindly to this information.

In what is maybe an attempt to backtrack, Crystal Dynamics studio head Darrell Gallagher released a statement on the game’s website Wednesday where he claims “Sexual assault of any kind is categorically not a theme that we cover in this game.”

As a response, Kotaku posted a direct transcript of part of the conversation that occurred between the Kotaku writer and Rosenberg:

RON: And then what happens is her best friend gets kidnapped, she gets taken prisoner by scavengers on the island. They try to rape her, and-

KOTAKU: They try to rape her?

RON: She’s literally turned into a cornered animal. And that’s a huge step in her evolution: she’s either forced to fight back or die and that’s what we’re showing today.

Perhaps Rosenberg was misinformed. Maybe Crystal Dynamics just doesn’t want negative publicity so far prior to Tomb Raider‘s release.

You may have heard that people don’t really dig the ending to Mass Effect 3.

In fact, a lot of folks actually kind of loathe it.

So much so that a group of vocal gamers complained to the U.K.’s Advertising Standards Authority, claiming that EA falsely advertised exactly how much in-game decisions affected Mass Effect 3‘s ending.

According to Gamasutra,

The ASA has now said that while it understands that consumers may feel that they could not influence the game’s story as much as advertised, it considers the three choices at the end of the game, plus the effectiveness of the ending based on the player’s “Effective Military Strength” score, to be enough such that the advertising was in fact not misleading.

If you’re one of the many who disliked the Mass Effect ending, at least you can take solace that the “Extended Cut” DLC is coming eventually.

Right? RIGHT?

Some people are dedicated to their favorite games, and some people are dedicated to their favorite games.

Reddit user Lycerius revealed in a post yesterday that he’s been playing the same game file of Civilization II for ten years.

While Lycerius claims to actually have a life — a gamer with a life? never! — he always turns to Civ II when he doesn’t have anything else going on.

The result of 10 years playing the same save file is a dystopic world set in 3991 A.D. There are only four nations left: The Celts — Lycerius’ chosen group — Vikings, Americans, and The Sioux barely cling to life on a remote island. The three stronger nations have been locked in combat with each other for over 1700 years, leading to dozens of nuclear wars.

As a result of nuclear fallout, the world’s ice caps have melted over 20 times, the lower-elevation map is almost completely irradiated swampland, and the world population has decreased 90% from 2000 years prior.

Lycerius has uploaded his save file to the new sub-Reddit dedicated to following his game, dubbed The Eternal War. This sub-Reddit now has over 12,000 subscribers, many of which are offering advice to Lycerius or just hoping for game updates.

It seems as though THQ‘s DLC support for Saints Row: The Third is a bottomless pit.

The newest batch, called the Witches & Wieners pack, allows you to dress your character up as a ninja, angel, devil, witch or, you guessed it, giant wiener.

I don’t get to use the phrase “giant wiener” enough in these GAMEBREAKER articles.

Those excited to finally play as a witch in Saints Row: The Third will be happy to know that there’s an accompanying broomstick vehicle.

The DLC is available now for about $3.

If witches and wieners aren’t your particular cup of tea, perhaps Penthouse Pets are more to your liking?

The guys over at CD Projekt RED seem pretty jazzed not to be working on a game with “Witcher” in the title.

This is according to Projekt RED co-founder Marcin Iwinski, who, in an interview with VentureBeat, said that he and his team are excited to work on a game that has the complete opposite setting as The Witcher.

“An opposite setting” is almost an understatement, because while The Witcher was trenched in fantasy lore, CD Projekt RED’s new title, Cyberpunk, is based on a futuristic pen-and-paper sci-fi RPG from the 1980s.

Although the Projekt RED Cyberpunk game is based on an existing property, Iwinski claims that it will not “recreate” the work established by Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith. Instead, Iwinski says they will “do some new things, and we’ll probably change some things.”

Luckily, Pondsmith is on board with the changes CD Projekt RED is making, and is actually being consulted on a “medium-high level” concerning some design decisions.

There’s still no official word on a release date for Cyberpunk, but Iwinski claims that we’ll learn more about the game’s story and setting later on this year.

As for the promised quality of the game? Projekt RED’s head of marketing Michal Platkow-Gilewsk confirms that “it will be great.”

Fans of The Witcher would expect nothing less.

It’s been an exciting past few DayZ — see what I did there?

Yesterday, Eurogamer.net reported that the ArmA 2 mod “suffered a security breach after one of the game’s forum admins deliberately uploaded an infected .exe file to the game’s servers.”

This was “confirmed” on the official DayZ forums by staff member Tonic, who posted: “This hacker…uploaded a malicious application to the US file host, which has since been taken offline.”

The worry that the game’s servers are becoming a botnet has been dashed by a subsequent forum post by DayZ dev Dean “Rocket” Hall.

Posted less than four hours after Tonic‘s, Rocket established a set of facts about the game’s security breach:

“Fact: One of our Artist’s PC’s was hacked by a person known to him.

Fact: The hacker used the Artist’s password to attack the forum’s.

Fact: This was detected almost immediately, initially it was thought that this person was in fact the artist themselves.

Fact: DayZ has RDP/Admin access to less than 15% percent of the servers hosting DayZ.

Fact: The forums were vandalized, and this was detected and rolled back immediately.

Fact: A staff member, in a rush to inform everyone, was misinformed and overreacted resulting in the infamous google groups message.”

The last line references a “staff member” who Rocket previously confirms in the post to be Tonic. Before his forum post, Tonic originally sent out a warning of the supposed malware in a Google Group message.

Thanks to Rocket, we know that this hacker business was all just a big misunderstanding, resulting in only the DayZ forums being vandalized.

Still, it’s not very cool to think that some are trying to tarnish the reputation of one of the coolest zombie games ever made.

Ever since the Ubisoft E3 press conference, Watch Dogs has been the game on almost everybody’s mind. The biggest questions surrounding the game are, 1) when can I get my hands on it?, and 2) which platforms will it be available on?

Earlier in the week, a Twitter post popped up on the official Watch Dogs account saying “the game will be released in 2013 and will be released on PC and consoles.”

That post has since been taken down. Kind of strange.

The post’s removal probably isn’t due to the mention of platforms. Ubisoft Montreal producer Domini Guay practically confirmed a PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 release of Watch Dogs last week.

Perhaps Ubi didn’t want to announce the 2013 release window quite yet. It’s possible that Watch Dogs has a long way to go, and perhaps they would prefer to release the game when it’s ready rather than rush it to make shelves next year.

Those of you who follow GAMEBREAKER know that last week we were hard at work reporting, tweeting, and Facebook-ing as much E3 coverage as possible. I, for one, am still exhausted, and I covered the show from my very own couch.

Unlike Mr. Gary Gannon, I wasn’t lucky enough to actually attend the expo this year. Still, thanks to copious amounts of internet and television coverage, I feel like I saw some really great games this year.

Here are my top 5 personal favorites shown at E3 2012:

5) Hawken

As someone who doesn’t follow mech games very closely, I was very impressed with what I saw of Hawken. The first-person mech game seems to move at a fun, fast pace, and it does so with gorgeous visuals. Not only does the game look fantastic, but it’s also going to be free-to-play, which is always great news for those who are only casually interested in the genre. Hawken is going to be a game to look for when the open beta goes live on December 12 (12/12/12 — get it?)

4) Star Wars 1313

There have been rumblings of a new Star Wars console game for months, and right before E3 it was leaked that Star Wars 1313 is an actual project. 1313 is a 3rd-person action adventure game taking place on the 1313th level of Coruscant. Players will take on the role of a bounty hunter — I.E. no force powers — who looks somewhat like Uncharted‘s Nathan Drake. There wasn’t a ton of info about Star Wars 1313, no release date or platforms were announced, but what I saw being shown at E3 definitely piqued my interest.

3) Far Cry 3

OK, it might just be my love for profanity, violence, and, erm… the “female form,” but the Far Cry 3 trailer shown during Ubisoft‘s E3 showing really grabbed my attention. Not only does this new sequel look like it’s unafraid to push societal boundaries, but Far Cry 3 looks like it could actually turn out to be a really killer game. Between very striking graphics and what looks like an interesting story, Far Cry 3 looks like a must-buy title for when the game — finally — ships in September.

2) Assassin’s Creed III

I’ve gone on-the-record as saying that I can’t wait for Assassin’s Creed III, and the new gameplay revealed at E3 absolutely sealed it for me. Hopping from tree branch to tree branch looks flawless. Fighting wolves — and later, bears — seems really exciting. Most of all, taking Assassin’s Creed-style gameplay and setting it during the Revolutionary War might be an act of genius. We’ll have to wait until October to know if AC3 will live up to the hype, but E3 made me more excited than ever to step back in the Animus.

1) Watch Dogs

Easily the biggest surprise to come out of E3 was Ubisoft’s new project Watch Dogs. At first glance, the game looks like a futuristic Grand Theft Auto, but after seeing the power that players can wield with new high-tech gadgets is what sealed the deal for most people. One minute, the character is walking through a club, profiling passers-by like The Terminator, then the next minute he’s causing a huge car collision by changing traffic lights on-the-fly.

It’s a huge testament to how good Watch Dogs looks by the fact that the trailer is ten minutes long, yet you’ll want to watch it multiple times. I can think of games that I didn’t want to play anymore after ten minutes, so wanting to watch that lengthy of a gameplay demo over and over again is somewhat unique.

Word has been mum on specific details, but Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has reportedly said that Watch Dogs will come to PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in 2013. Exciting!
