Old games you wish would be remade

On today’s chat bubble I’m wondering what old games you wish should be remade.

As I mention in the video, I’m not talking about games which can be played on emulators. I know, as you probably do too, that many games of yesteryear, like old games you played on an Atari, or an Amiga, or other systems, including Nintendo and Sega systems, can be downloaded and played via programs which emulate the operating systems of these retro consoles. These also allow you to play old games on your PC or mac, often using USB joysticks or similar to control the character, and they’re really great fun, if you’re a fan of old games, like me, then you should definitely check them out!

But today’s topic isn’t about emulators, it’s about old games that you wish could be dragged kicking and screaming into 2013, given a face-lift and updated with new graphics, although not necessarily altered too greatly. Mine begin, perhaps showing my age, with a couple of early 90s games. The first is Road Rash, a game where you raced motorbikes, and tried to knock other people off their motorbike with clubs. It was one I played a lot of, and it was great fun! Even though I’m not a huge fan of driving games, it was just entertaining, and somehow wasn’t quite replaced by the cheerful brutality of MarioKart!

Moving on from Road Rash, another old favourite I wish could get a 2013 rework is Zool. I found some old footage that (briefly) shows in the video, and as I mention, although I know there were several better games, I loved that little ninja! He was so cute with his little black outfit and his eyes!

As well, what currently abandoned games do you wish would get sequels? If you watch Legendary live, you might have seen in the after-show chat that I’m a huge fan of Portal. I recently played through Portal and Portal 2 again, and wish there was a portal three coming. I mention one other game in the video that I’d love to see a sequel to, but what about you?

What old games do you wish would be remade, and what do you wish would get sequels?

FF7 soured my taste on the FF series all together, really poor level progression design  that allowed me to get Knights, Ultima and Gold Chocobo yet was not high enough level to tech down Sephiroth or the weapons.

First off, I’m really loving these chat bubbles, keep them coming! Anyway, onto the topic at hand, really there aren’t a ton of old games that I want to be remade, at most I would want them to simply be upgraded graphically, perhaps with a few bug fixes or quality of life improvements. I think most people would LOVE for any number of the Final Fantasy games to be re-released with new graphics. I know that I would buy 6, 7, 9, and Tactics again at the very least if they came out with new graphics. I wouldn’t even want them all to be 3D, the sprite-based graphics should be left the same, just with much higher quality and resolution. Just look at some of the newer 2D games that have come out with sprites, they look amazing.

Other than that though, honestly, the only things I would want them to change in a lot of old games is their accessibility, i.e. being able to play them on new consoles. I just can’t be bothered to fish out my old SNES or whatever if I feel like playing an old game.

Sequels I Want: Skate 4, Sleeping Dogs 2, Shenmue 3, Dark Age of Camelot 2

I turn 40 next month and I got my first Atari 2600 in 1978 which I played on my 13″ RCA B&W TV. ^^; My list of games I’d like to see is rediculously longer than what I have listed above. A fun thing is a couple of the above I got to work on. :-)

I would love to see a remake of River City Ransom from Nintendo. I played that game for years. Getting someone knew to replay it with me in coop always made the experience new for me. God I love that game.

Another awesome game that brings back memories was Bonk from the TurboGrafx-16. I also fondly remember Shinobi from the Sega Master System, but there are quite a few ninjas in gaming, so I guess it’s not necessary.  Ahh, the good old days.  :*)

  • Hicks64

Pokemon in a huge 3d world and lightgun games (Lethal Enforcers, Time Crisis).

  • Erik E

I like to see a remake of Secret of Mana or Chrono Trigger from the SNES. Other games I would like to see remake is Xenogears from ps1 that game had me going for days. I think older RPG’s always have had a better feel to it then m ost of the things i see released nowadays which is a bit of a shame.

A game I would like to see a sequel on is Arc the Lad from the ps1/2 one of my favorites. I know that there allot of similar games but that just had a good feel to me.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jonathan.hornsby.7 Jonathan Hornsby

Parasite Eve. A Resident Evil (classic) styled survival horror game with strong RPG elements and a story that is actually good…..need I say more?

  • http://twitter.com/GEOBARDl Ibán Martín Callejón

That’s a difficult question, because everyone knows that remakes are always awful and destroy the good memories you had of a game. But i would like to play an HD version of the Sonic games from the Sega Genesis and Shenmue.

Oh this makes me all fuzzy & cuddly inside. Commodore 64 thaw shall never be forgotten.
But tbh i would rather that they would not rework old games. They hold a special place for everyone & i know most of us would like to relive that moment again, but the thing is they are special because they are part of out past, of us growing up, discovering alongside with the industry itself what gaming actually is.
Duke Nukem 3D from a sensory nirvana to an washed up pron star with too much botox & an aray of std.

  • BabyChooChoo

I would kill for a sequel to Darkstalkers. Darkstalkers 3 is EASILY one of my favorite games of all time. A sequel would literally make me the happiest person on earth. Literally. Not even joking. I’m so serious right now it hurts. Seriously. Dead Serious. Not joking.

The thought of a possible sequel is the only thing that keeps me going these days lol.

Ooooh, and also Folklore. It’s the greatest PS3 game no one played except for me and like 6 other people. Man, that was a good game.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jason.jenkins.73 Jason Jenkins

there are two old strategy games i would love to see again, the first was E.T.O. European Theater Operation and P.T.O. Pasific Theater Operation.  both were built kinda the same way with eto focusing on land combat and pto on naval.  only current game i would love to see a “real” sequal done to is Kotor, no not kotor II and no not swtor, but a real well done sequal by bioware.

I don’t really think I want old games remade, but I would like to

  • Tim Willson

I grew on the PC in the 80s more than console, so I would wonder what an updated/sequel to King’s Quest or Space Quest would be. I guess it would be more like what Monkey Island had been released at a few years back. Other than that, I think Wing Commander would be fun.

There was an old Apple game called Dark Castle that I spent countless hours playing.

    • Ravenstorm

Check out Star Citizen. Chris Roberts from Wing Commander will bring you heaven. In some years to come.

      • Tim Willson

I went there. It looks really cool. Will keep an eye on that one. Thanks!

      • Revanhavoc

Before I had heard of this game I would have said Wing Commander for sure, but Star Citizen will look to satisfy my space sim desires.

Shining Force, either actually imported, or made in the U.S.  Or maybe a parody, just give me Shining Force.

  • http://www.facebook.com/stuart.chafin Stuart Chafin

excite bike!..make you own tracks and bet the times online…Roger Wilco .point and click needs a come back….a game some help me old NES game you pick up junk and would progress the dungeon with combinations of them at the  right time.  I can’t remember the title fought a demon at the end.  Most of it was trial and error.  Like the idea of picking up stuff around a environment and using it.   Final the traps of Temco’s Deception love the original limits and all.  Making a castle luring people to their deaths.  Death traps need a place in gaming!

  • 7BitBrian

    Xenogears

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Daniel-Scott-Blair/614675377 Daniel Scott Blair

Definitely, I’ve never been required to die so many times in a game without knowing I was supposed to.  Grahf is by far one of the best antagonists I’ve ever had the pleasure to fight.

  • Depravity

Give me Paperboy with Cryengine 3. I want to throw newspapers in my neighbors’ window, avoid rabid dogs and possibly end with a Trials Evolutions-esque map editor. Yeah!

That and fucking Pitfall, possibly with bugs so big you’d rage on every stiff jump you make flying 12 feet up like a ninja statue.

  • Nicolás Zuasti

    Monkey Island 1 & 2.
Prince of persia (the original one, not the 3D).
Planescape torment (a bit newer but still)
    Rick Dangerous.
    Metroid
    Extreme Pinball
    Hexen.
    Indiana Jones (all of them)

Zool was also on the Archimedes, couldn’t remember much about it, but instantly recognised that logo with the eyes.
An old game I really loved at the time was “Exile” on the Electron/BBC Micro, though it was a bitch getting it to load off of tape.

    Updated games? gotta go with
     1) Missle Command (from the Atari 2600)and 2) Legend of the Dragoon (PS2)

  • Ravenstorm

    Dark Legions. Strategy and skill.
    Fantasy Empires. Same.
Legend of Kyrandia. Really enjoyable adventure.

All old DOS games, really nice music, concepts and atmosphere.
Would like to see them remade.

My big hero gamecompanies in the old days were SSI, Westwood and Sierra.
Especially Sierra, they made the best adventure games. Any of those remade would cheer my year.
