We were all noobs once, so share your defining noob moments with the Gamebreaker community!

One of the things I love about games is learning. I have learned so much over my years of playing WoW, for example, I probably wouldn’t level another paladin as holy. That was a stupid idea, although at the time I seemed to die so much sooner than the mobs I was hitting that having some heals seemed like a good plan. It didn’t occur to me for some time that killing them faster would be an equally appropriate response to the issue! I elaborate on many more of my WoW noob moments in the video, as I’ve been playing it for so long there are quite a few!

But how about other games? I still laugh at myself remembering how, when I first played Portal, and you start off in the tutorial room which I think I’m right in saying is mirrored. I saw myself through a portal and thought I was a bad guy. Ah how I laughed… And, of course, you might be aware that I’m just learning to play League of Legends. I’m still far too nooby at League to know exactly what I’m doing that is, itself, a noob moment, so I’m asking very politely for you to definitely, definitely tell me if your noob moments relate to League of Legends! Help me to avoid falling into the same traps that you did, so that I can be less of a noob at LoL.

One thing I’m doing in LoL that is definitely nooby is getting the WoW battleground-esque red mist descending, and chasing low health enemy players far too far into their territory, and then getting owned by their towers just a little before I realize I’ve over-extended. That’s got to be pretty nooby, right?

So I’ve shared a lot of my noob moments in the video, and now it’s your turn! Tell me all about your rookie errors, your starting mistakes, your beginners’ luck! Don’t be ashamed, we were all noobs once.

when i first started playing WoW i had no idea about add-ons and thought that there was only one action bar :D

    LoL noob moment:

When I was learning to play Ziggs – I saw all these pro players launching themselves with his Satchel Charge, so I thought I’d attempt to master it… The amount of times I failed and missed/walked past it/launched myself in the wrong direction is unbelievable. I’ve gotten the hang of it now – but I still have the odd facepalm moment every now and then.

    WoW noob moment:
When I first started playing WoW I leveled my druid practically all the way to 70 as resto. Although I was doing some dungeons, I still fully quested as a resto druid. So yeah… giant noob – but at least I didn’t die! ^_^

I used to think that when people said ‘stop QQ’ing’ that it meant stop que quitting (like for pvp matches)….

Also every time someone called me or someone else a ‘Troll’ i thought that it was just the super nice nerd way of calling someone ugly…

And the oh so classic Everquest adventures.. whether it was walking into freeport as a paladin, or just venturing into a place like Kithicor forest for the first time.

Speaking of Kithicor, I think everyone had that noob moment of when they were hanging out in the forest during the day having picnics and such… then night comes… which ties into another noob moment… “what does train to ____ zone mean?” -> AHHHHH!

likewise on the ton of wow noob moments but the one that has always stuck with me was around my first week of playing i asked in general about health regain and how it worked and someone told me that if you “just sit” you regain health faster then standing…i went on to do that for awhile in a vain attempt to save gold by not buying food.

I remember trying to get to Undercity from Silvermoon thinking I had to cross EPL/WPL. Didn’t realize that zone was like 50. Then being intimidated by the large behemoth patchwork guards when I found the teleport thing. ;>>

      • lilmissy4205

Because of that flub, I was nice enough to show someone how to get from the translocator orb to Lady Slyvanas if they were clearly new to Warcraft.

My biggest noob moment would have to be when I first started playing Runescape back in ’04-’07. I was fresh out of Lumbridge and exploring when I came to the barbarian village and saw people fishing! I was so excited to try it out, but had NO idea how it worked, so I did the most logical thing I could think of: I got a ball of wool and some logs, then stood around where people were fishing and just kept asking ‘How do I make a fishing rod!?’. Eventually someone was kind enough to explain where I had to go to buy one, since making them wasn’t possible. I still laugh at myself for this, and remember it whenever I see a noob (in any game), and remind myself how ignorant we can all be when starting something new, and to help out people, rather than make fun of them for not knowing something

First time I started playing WoW my friends had been playing for a long time and played lots of MMO’s before that. I heard my friends on many occasions in WoW say they were board so they were “Farming.”

I got into the game I was board and started asking where I go make my farm, and asking what I could plant in it (this was during BC)…..Needless to say I felt so silly when I found it that “farming” doesnt have anything to do with planting a garden.

  • HappyHansel

This silly dwarf player kept following my brand new character around one day in World of Warcraft, swinging his hammer at me, jumping up and down, and typing nonsense in chat. So I typed friendly nonsense back at him, waved, danced, etc.

A couple of weeks later, I suddenly realized that my troll character was Horde, the dwarf was Alliance, the chat gibberish was because the two sides dont’ speak the same language, and the silly dwarf hadn’t been trying to make friends with me. He had been trying to start a fight and kill me.

      Very possibly was me lol

First time hitting 60 in Vanilla. Played a Retribution Paladin (because I dinged the same day). These guys are like “Hey dude, come do this DUNGEON with us!”. It was Molten Core. So I start attacking the giants and they’re like no, no, no dude! You gotta heal! Paladins heal!!! So I healed… as ret… up to Garr.

I was used to EQ raiding (and even then, I wasn’t min/maxing at 14-15 years old). In my mind, one class main healed, but the other classes that off-healed weren’t 2-handed sword wielding melee DPS :P So I got confused, and quit cause I didn’t wanna play a healer lol.

Oh well i remember when i dont know even the concept of a mmo; I heard about WoW (this was late beta) and i found it on some torrent site(yea i know booooo^^) But as the noob i was i thought that was it and i could start to play.. I can to this day see the Darkportal login screen(and remember i dont not know what a login screen was at the time) and feel the frustration while trying to look everywhere how to start WoW, i gave up heheeh ^^

When I first started playing WoW, I leveled a Paladin from 1 to 67 as Protection via autoattacking. This broke my ability to enjoy the Paladin class, anytime I attempt to make a new one the memories come flooding back and I leave in shame.

For real-time strategy games, I started by only creating a couple “worker” units for gathering resources and building structures. Needless to say, the lack of a strong economy caused countless failed civilizations.

And another thing; how many here have fallen for the “Alt-F4″ trick/joke? Well i have..once hehe. Like in chat ;”how do i take a screenshot?” and a nice troll would reply;”Alt F4″ hehehehe! ^^

World of Warcraft. Happy paladin straight outof Northshire Abby. Into Elwynn Forest, looking at bunnies going ‘aww so cute and beautifull this world’. Killed a weird creature wearing a candle who was yelling not to take his candle. Felt very brave.
Had to run away from others like him because they were mad at me for killing their bro, I thought at that time. Didn’t want to walk on the roads and decided to ‘roam the woods’. Completely missed the way to Stormwind. Also missed Goldshire. Over a road, spoke to some guards at a bridge. Further into the woods. Fought some boars. Came at a river. Tried to swim over the river, which I did and thought how cool is this world, you can actually swim in water and beneath, very nice.

On the other side I immediately heard howling from a wolf, which attacked me. I fought bravely but died. Ran back in ghostform, resolute to killify that fiend. Fought it, died again, and did this for over 5 times untill I decided I couldn’t kill the wolf and ran in disgrace towards the river, swam over into Elwynn Forest again, saw the wolf retreated back to the other shore.
I stood at he other side of the water for more than 2 minutes, glaring at that wolf. Angry and ashamed he thwarted my adventure. I just couldn’t believe a mere wolf had beaten me.

It was much later I found out I was fighting a ridiculously higher level creature whilst I was under half of his level. The noobness.

I have two extremely noob moments during my World of Warcraft “Career”.  The Second moment feeds off the First.

1:  I have been playing WoW since launch.  WoW is my first ever MMO that I have ever played.  I leveled a Tauren Warrior 1-60 without knowing anything in depth about my character.  I didn’t know anything about stats, or what kind of gear to acquire, I literally was running around in Leather at Level 60.  Once I got the idea that I need Plate gear, I decided I wanted to wield a shield.  This ultimately meant I was going to start tanking.  I joined a decent raiding guild looking for a tank for raiding, so I thought I’d give it a go.  Here I am in this pretty serious raiding guild (Doing Blackwing Lair), in my half Prot, half Arms spec….don’t ask.  I started getting gear left and right, even though I was sucking so bad at tanking.  I didn’t know what stamina was….yes no idea what it meant.  I had a dagger as my tanking weapon..but yet this guild I guess never noticed.  I got a full T2 set within about a month of raiding.  I was so stoked. I was the must noob full T2 tank out there.  But hey, I was a bada$$ looking noob tank.

2: This one is short.  So yeah…full T2 Warrior gear right?  The IDIOT I AM……was so gold hungry I disenchanted all of it….ALL OF IT!!!! I still cry to this day.  I tried to get the gear restored about a year later….didn’t work…..

WoW, around 2008-ish. Level 10 Night Elf Druid. Thought the only way off Teldrassil was jumping. Died about 10 times before a friend finally told me there was a portal in the city.

  • Eric Davenport

My most memorable noob moment was when i first started WoW and i was in the human starting area. I saw some people talking in General chat so i whispered one of them and asked how they talk in that. They told me and i did it, but at the time i thought i had cheated my self to the rank of general rather than just a channel for general chat.

I I remember in wow in eye of the storm getting the flag and then panicking and I was like oh no what do I do and everyone was screaming at me in BG chat so I ran around in circles until I got killed man I was such a noob lol
