SyFy Introduces Heroes Of Cosplay
Heroes of Cosplay, a new SyFy reality show about cosplay competition premieres tomorrow.
Okay.. I will admit, I’m a little late on seeing this one — probably because, like many people, I don’t watch regular TV any more. That said, I’m sure there are plenty of people like me who missed seeing this is a thing. And, since I know about it now… I wanted to fill you all in on SyFy’s new series Heroes of Cosplay.
According to the show’s about page on the SyFy site, Heroes of Cosplay is a reality show that follows nine competitive cosplayers as they create costumes and compete at various conventions. A few of the cosplayers will be familiar faces to some of you while others are newer to the scene and competing for the first time.
It may not be what you think.
Cosplay is one of those things that a lot of people have yet to “get”. It’s not something “normal” people do. It’s “weird”. And a lot of people seem worried that this show may actually make cosplayers look worse and give the hobby an ugly brand. Of course… All we’ve seen so far are some dramatically edited trailers designed to make people interested in the show. We really won’t know until we see the series in action how SyFy decided to handle things.
I am pretty positive that the show will be edited for maximum drama, because that’s what people watch… but I’m not convinced it will be the worst thing to happen to the community. And I am interested in watching it to see how it’s handled. If nothing else, it looks like it might actually give some insight into costume creation and it’s difficulty.
Catching Heroes of Cosplay
For those of you interested in catching the show, it premieres Tuesday, August 13th at 10:30/9:30 central. For the other time zones.. Well.. check your TV schedules. I’m terrible at those time-zone things.
