S2 Responds to Heroes of Newerth Account Hacks
‘Tis the season to unwillingly or unknowingly lose your account information to hackers in Heroes of Newerth as reported by S2 this weekend.
S2 CEO Marc “Maliken” DeForest has stated on the forums that the breach occurred on Sunday and that players should change their passwords for any linked accounts.
“We’ve been working around the clock with our internal expert security staff to analyze what happened, and it is our mission to be completely transparent. We know that only passwords were stolen. No credit card or billing information was compromised, as we do not store this information. The security breach occurred when a third-party software that interacts with our account database was hacked. Contrary to some outside reports, the game client was not hacked.”
Also remember that when you log in, you will be prompted to change your password which will expire for the next login.
S2 has ensured that they upgraded their current security systems as well as reiterating if you used your HoN password for any third party accounts to please change them now!
As always if you have any additional comments or questions to shoot their community manager a post.
I am curious to hear if players were expecting this would happen considering the amount of account hacks this year with other well know companies or does this put a dent in your holiday cheer?
