League of Legends Champion Price Reduction Schedule Update
2 Comments

A few weeks back Riot announced an update to its League of Legends champion price format and introduced a schedule of pricing tiers that made price reductions for older champions a much more formalized thing. Basically whenever a new champion is released, older champions will be chosen and bumped down to the next lower tier based on age and ease of play. The tiers range from the highest where brand new champions are introduced at 7800 IP / 975 RP for the first week, then move down to the standard 6300 IP / 975 RP a week after release, to the lowest tier which is 450 IP / 260 RP. Check out our previous LoL Champion Pricing Schedule article for the full rundown.

After the initial announcement regarding the changes to the champion pricing structure, we saw immediate price reductions for Ezreal, Vladimir, Renekton, Nocturne, Lee Sin, Brand and Vayne. As of today Riot has unveiled which League of Legends champions will get price reductions in the coming weeks.

With the first champion release of 2013, Yorick will be reduced to 4800 IP / 880 RP, and Udyr will be bumped down to the 1350 IP / 585 RP tier.

The second champion release of 2013 will see Leona move down to 4800 IP / 880 RP.

The third champion release of 2013 will bring Wukong’s cost down to 4800 IP / 880 RP.

There’s a very important thing to note here as well. Often when a champion is purchased within a short window before a weekly sale begins, Riot will refund the difference in cost back to the customer. These tiered price reductions will not work that way because they are being announced weeks in advance, so if you can’t wait those last few days to get your Udyr on, don’t expect to receive the difference in price once he drops to the next pricing tier.

It looks like Riot plans to give us plenty of notice when a League of Legends champion is scheduled for a price drop, which is just one more thing for players to patiently look forward to. And by patiently I mean we want it now. Now hurry up and gimme Thresh.
