League Of Legends Gets A New Custom Game Mode - ARAM.

While League of Legends has only been around for a bit over two years, the MOBA genre has been around longer.  Needless to say, players have always fiddled around with formulas to create different subgenres of games that have become popular. One such subgenre includes the concept of ARAM (All-Random-All-Middle).

Riot Games have developed a new map called ‘Proving Grounds‘ which was made available on LoL’s public beta environment for testing.  The map was scheduled to be released on June 20th alongside the last patch, but Riot has had to delay its release due to some concerns with platform stability. Although it isn’t currently on the live servers, it will still be playable on the PBE and can be accessed when creating custom games.

The map itself is a modified version of the tutorial map, with modifications to gameplay similar to that of Dominion (increased gold/experience rate, unavailable items, etc.). Riot has also made various tweaks in response to player feedback on the PBE server, but we will have to wait before we can test this out on the live servers.

Are you excited about playing some ARAM? Do you expect Riot Games to introduce more game modes in the future? Leave a comment below!

I’m intrigued, but id rather have a variant of summoners rift, perhaps change the layout of the jungle and monsters, or add jungle on the outside of top and bot lanes.

Also, is ARAM going to be layed out just like the proving grounds map?

That sounds horrible, not much room for champion build progression or dynamic gameplay.

Proving Grounds could turn out to be a good alternative, akin to Dominion.

The main point of having game modes such as these is that it doesn`t divert away from the gameplay experience but still provide an alternative for its player base. While it may seem that the room for champion build progression seems a bit on the lighter side it doesn`t necessarily diverge too far off from dynamic gameplay.

Sure if you set the map mode to ARAM players will be pigeon-holed into trying new characters (which could help their overall understanding (weaknesses/advantages)) but what’s probably the best thing that comes out of it is understanding team-fight mechanics that are easily applicable to other game modes.
