Tinfoil Hats On!
League of Legends developer Riot Games is no stranger to registering seemingly random domain names, and of course it’s completely possible that some domains are registered simply to throw people off, or are just ideas that never see the light of day, but there’s a new Riot owned domain floating around out there according to Fusible, and it is “Project 425″.
Riot Games President Marc Merrill has been the domain owner since November 2008, and has renewed the domain annually until this past week, when it was transferred to internet brand protection company MarkMonitor and renewed up through 2015. The Whois record now shows the domain owner as Riot Games.
Conspiracy theorists can add this domain to LoL Supremacy and several other domain names Riot currently owns. We know that Riot is currently working on other games, but what types of games they are, and what their names might be are still pretty top secret.
This could be the sign of a big new project coming from Riot, or useless speculation that never amounts to anything. At this point, either is likely.
