Riot Releases Diana, Scorn of the Moon as the 102nd Champion

Summoners!

The sun has been eclipsed this week on the Fields of Justice, which can only mean one thing…

Diana, Scorn of the Moon, has made her way into the League of Legends.  And boy is she popular!

Totted as a fallen Solari, Diana is simply the byproduct of an inquisitive nature who refused to accept the teachings of her people without question.  So you’re basically looking at Bizzaro Leona, right?

Wrong!

Diana is an extremely aggressive melee AP champion that excels at being a straight up assassin or a quick jungler.  What makes her unique though is her tool kit, which borrows some of the best abilities which make champions such as Akali, Orianna, and Sion so memorable.

Enemy trying to run away?  No problem!  Mark them with a quick slash of Crescent Strike and double flash onto them a la Akali with Lunar Rush.  Are there multiple enemies fleeing?  Or maybe you want to initiate a team fight?  Copy Orianna’s ultimate and pull everyone towards you with a well placed Moonfall.

But possibly my favorite ability – which makes Diana an absolute beast in the jungle – is Pale Cascade.  Similar to Sion, Diana gains a shield which reduces incoming damage and also deals damage.  Unlike Sion, the damage dealt is via rotating orbs which also refresh the shield effect once all three have been detonated.

With great burst, fast clears, and an aggressive presence, I’m looking forward to see how Diana fares in the League.

One thing’s for certain though – This week, do yourself a favor and build magic resist if you’re in solo queue.

In long games where I’m super fed with Diana, which quite happens often, I like to build: Gunblade, Sorc Boots, Deathcap, Lich Bane, Nashor’s Tooth & Abyssal’s Sceptre. What is great about this build is that even without that final item I can easily solo baron, 25 seconds and not drop below 60% health.

As she’s only a week old, I’m still experimenting with builds that I like as well.  My biggest gripe is with her early game mana issues as she’s quite a mana hog.  Still tweaking around to combat that.

Rushing out a Sheen helps to alleviate her early game mana issues, because it increases her mana pool and it allows her to kill her targets more quickly, thus using less mana. But this is the primary reason why I jungle with her, because it allows me to keep tabs on blue or nab the enemy blue, if I have it warded.
