NA Teams Get Critiqued By Rivals Post League of Legends Quarterfinals
30 Comments

With all the drama that occurred over the weekend with the League of Legends Championship Quarterfinals you would think that nothing else would happen, right?

Sadly after Team SoloMid, the last remaining North American team standing, got royally stomped by Azubu Frost, European team Moscow 5 and Korean team Azubu Frost gave in their post game conference their opinions what the NA teams need to do in order to improve their games.

Talking with M5, team leader Alex Ichetovkin had this to say.

“…how they feel about the game, they are coming not to win but just to make a show. It’s like they’re making a show all the time. They’re coming with girlfriends, they’re relaxing, playing solo rank instead of practicing…It’s more about how you think about the game.”

While Azubu Frost politely stated that the NA teams have gotten better since last year, overall there is a lack of communication and setting goals.

When you combine records of Team Dignitas, CLG Prime, and Team SoloMid, the win ratio was 1-7, so there is something the North American teams can take from these criticisms.

There is a ray of hope as team leader Reginald of Team SoloMid stated in his AMA that they are looking to hire a coach, increase practice hours, and focus on team practice.  Time will tell how effective these steps will be for teams like Team SoloMid and whether the other NA teams will take similar steps to ensure a higher chance at winning.

Leave a comment below letting us know your thoughts on this matter. Should NA teams take the role of being a professional gamer more seriously, or was this a matter of being beaten by a more skilled team?

Sadly After Team Solo Mid got royally stomped by Azubu Frost? O you mean the team that cheated in order to win outplayed a team that did not cheat and changed their tactics based upon the information they received from cheating managed to beat a legit team? Skill.

Yeah, those guys that shit all over TSM, that’s them.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jonathan-Reyna/1830988318 Jonathan Reyna

So you accept that Riot has come out and said “Azubu Frost’s ADC clearly cheated multiple times throughout the match and will be fined 30k” and still defend that victory when TSM’s strategy was focused on Early game, but because AF cheated they prevented TSM from snowballing and denying their strategy. Yeah thats totally skill, when in the history of any professional tournament has cheating ever been condoned on that level? Never is the answer to that question you cheat and you get dq’d no exceptions.

        • http://www.facebook.com/denys.cumba Denys Cumba

It wasn’t condoned, they were fined, whether you agree with the decision is irrelevant. Doesn’t however change the fact that Frost is far and away the stronger team. Even if you discount the 2 WC games, look at TSM’s history against them. Not a V in sight.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jonathan-Reyna/1830988318 Jonathan Reyna

They were fined 30k out the 150k they have already won and potentially could go on to win a million dollars. The only reason they werent just dq’d is because it would look incredibly bad on Riots part for hosting an event where nearly every team has been accounted for cheating. Again no other game would just fine a team and say “don’t do it again” that’s just not right. You want to talk about history? Please go wiki how many tournaments TSM has won versus how many Azubu has won and then you can tell me because they’ve lost a combined handful of games to a unknown team that somehow makes them better than TSM.

You do realize League just hit the 1 year anniversary in Asia right? The reason TSM won more tournaments is because there are more tournaments in NA, the game has been available longer in NA. Azubu is like a 6 month old team while TSM is over 2 years old.

Actually it happened in the Olympics this year, a swimmer cheated and got to keep the medal.

          • http://www.facebook.com/eric.lander Eric Lander

            disappointing…. :(

        • http://www.facebook.com/eric.lander Eric Lander

Not defending Azubu…… I wish they were straight up removed from the tournament. But if Dyrus is being truthful about his cheating then I can’t defend TSM either…….also picking Darius against a Jayce top lane is a sure fire way to throw the lane.

edit: realized you weren’t replying to me…. sorry ^_^

    • http://www.facebook.com/eric.lander Eric Lander

Dyrus of TSM admitted to cheating as well….yep so TSM and all of NA got outplayed yet again.
It is so sad that we can’t seem to compete on the international stage.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jonathan-Reyna/1830988318 Jonathan Reyna

Dyrus admitted to looking up at the screen in a pause when it was blank, if he really cheated why isn’t he being fined? Because he didn’t.

        • http://twitter.com/WadeDMcGinnis Wade D McGinnis

But he did admit to viewing and RedBeard has hit the forums saying “we believe other members of AzF modified their gameplay (level 1 ping
and Jayce brush check) based upon the information gained. We don’t
believe, however, that these actions decided the winner of the game.”

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_XB4W2JWTRJ5FUR72E7S6ZCZANM Joe

Riot made an official post on this. It states that Dyrus did cheat and was given a warning. But, since TSM didn’t gain an advantage from Dyrus looking at the minimap they weren’t fined.

    • http://www.facebook.com/zsansom Zach Sansom

You do realize TSM came out and stated that they would’ve lost regardless, right?

“It’s like their(they’re) making a show all the time. Their(they’re) coming with

Please tell me this was copy/pasted from someone else because if it wasn’t, who ever edits these articles needs a lesson in third grade english.

Preparation done by non NA teams makes NA team preparation and research look like a joke. NA games as a hobby, while other countries such as Korea view this as a sport and profession.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=507687881 Kyle Schmelzer

Well, its good to see TSM taking steps to get back on track. Cheating aside, its sad to be of the NA region and have no teams make it to the finals. In fact we got wrecked pretty hard.

    • Shaikh Omar

Pretty much, even CLG-NA admit that NA is behind every other region. He stated that because of the amount of prep and ability to practice against other teams (EU and Korea having  9 – 10 pro teams up at any time) vs NA (really only 3 teams: CLG – NA, TSM, and Dignitas) really hurt NA chances at this tourney.

They’re right… NA players just dont take gaming seriously. Its a hobby, at best. Now, theres some that are truely hardcore, but they never come together to make a team. Its always friends, or family that get together to train.
Its sad that we’re at the bottom of the poll, but its almost a good thing. At least we’re not dying after week long sessions of D3…

LoL ain’t an esport :) Dear RIOT you just can’t buy an esport scene, no matter how much money you pump in…

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dustin-Brookens/100003510262900 Dustin Brookens

LoL IS the defining ESport of the day. Aside from Starcraft there isnt really much else outside of shooters.

      • http://www.facebook.com/andrejbartik Andrej Bartík

“LoL IS the defining ESport of the day”
no referees, minimap screens above players, no booths, sun glare in player screens, truly defining esports

        • Jason Hall

You seem to have some sort of problem with the game that you are letting leak into your statements. Like it or not, League is the leader in E-sports, at least for now. If you want to critique a game, try to at least be honest about it, and leave the snark at the door.

          • IrishBrewed

The game is worthy of it, but the handling of the event leaves a lot to be desired.

        • http://www.facebook.com/inkogni.alex Inkogni Alex

some mad person came to comment, LoL is what it is and theres nothing u can do about it.

  • Dean Scott

Man… is there anything Americans can do good these days…?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_R35J5EUERGS3E6JRIQMBCDTRRY Nathan I

borrowing and spending beyond their means?

  • Depravity

Why not make it mandatory to do pushups, squats and chinups until their arms fall off and they can’t sit down cause their butts hurt so much before every game? Then you’ll be able to call it a sport. Until then please leave the domain of sports to athletes… unless you wanna change the nomenclature and add f. pool, card games and chess players to the mix.

Whenever I see pictures of these so called eSport players I can’t stop laughing. Kids, at least start jogging, mofos. Or even better: tell your absent parents to start caring about your future (cause you don’t seem to).

    • http://twitter.com/TuxPants Light Yagami

Those other things you listed are also sports, so…? Don’t presume to know how much discipline it takes to be a top tier chess or moba player. Unless you like sounding like an idiot.

We didn’t go there to win (although we were hoping to), we went to have fun. Video games were created so people could have fun. We lost because we don’t want to turn our hobbies into our jobs. Gaming is so competitive that the pros have to practice for several hours a day at one single game.

We’re not like the Koreans. We have lives. The only reason the Koreans are so good is because they spend all their time learning how to hack enemy nukes before they detonate. Then their government forces them to win at Esports because they can’t win at anything else.
