The newest champion addition to the League Of Legends has just become playable.
Varus, the Arrow of Retribution, wielder of a mighty crossbow as he fights from afar.
This latest champion is a AD carry that has an array of abilities to make him a great team fighting champion, and additionally great as a laner who can prove to be real thorn in your side.
Varus is ranged champ that works great in the laneing situation if your playstyle is more suited to poking and prodding at your opponent, rather than an outright nuke class, as his abilities are focused around methodical play.
- Living Vengeance - Temporary attack speed boost on kill or assist, boost lasts longer if target was a champion.
His passive isn’t one that requires much thought around how you are to play the champion, it is an interesting addition to your arsenal to deal damage faster, but doesn’t require much thought or prior preparation.
Q: Piercing Arrow
- A chargeable arrow that damages everything in its path, reduced by 15% for everything hit.
An ability similar to Caitlyn’s Peacemaker with exactly the same mechanics, excluding the charging period. Use it for dropping the stacks of Blight from range dealing maximum damage to targeted champion. Easy to mitigate when playing vs him — make sure you can easily have other units in its path and can be dodged as easy as Peacemaker.
W: Blighted Quiver
- Each auto attack deals extra damage and applies a stack of Blight. Other abilities detonate stacks of Blight
Make sure you are keeping your stacks of Blight up on your opposing champion and detonate to cause even more damage. A good rotation of getting Blight to three and then hitting with a Piercing will keep your lane damage output high.
E: Hail Of Arrows
- An AoE that reduces movement speed and healing to champions in the area whilst dealing initial damage.
Great for more advanced Blight play if you are playing bot. Stack on both champions and detonate at same time, maximising damage while you have the chance to slow and keep them down for you and your support to deal damage.
Ultimate: Chain Of Corruption
- AoE slow that spread from champion to champion dealing damage and rooting in place
Keep your enemies locked down in either team fights or one on one situations. A root that can be included with Hail Of Arrows to keep melees at a distance for you to take out, or it works well in a team fight as good coordination will make him a late game AD carry.
As soon as you get the play-style of this new carry nailed down, I can see him being a great addition to many team formats. Team up with a hard hitting class, keep up the slows and methodically play your way to victory.
Varus looks to be a very interesting champion and I cannot wait to get hands on time with him soon.
Having just hit the servers, Varus could be the champion you have been saving your IP for.
