TPA Crowned Season 2 World Champs
6 Comments

After a grueling 4 game series, team Taipei Assassins have emerged as your League of Legends Season 2 World Champions.

It had been a long journey for the team from Taiwan.

Coming into the Season 2 Finals being seen as (arguably) the weakest team of the tournament, TPA proved without a shadow of a doubt that they’re not a team to be taken lightly.  Starting with the take down of the dominant 3-0 NaJin Sword in commanding 2-0 fashion during the quarter finals, TPA turned heads and won the attention of every team at the competition.  Launching into the semifinals, TPA followed up by doing the unthinkable and taking down the the aggressive juggernaut that is Moscow 5 BenQ – the favored team to take the championship – in an epic best of 3 games.

With eyes on the prize, TPA patiently waited as the nearly undefeated 7-1 Azubu Frost climbed their way to meet them in the finals.  After a lengthy game 1 defeat, TPA displayed an aggressive assault unlike any seen in the tournament thus far.  A 5-0 Vayne backed by a blood boiling Nunu catapulted the team and forced an extremely early game 2 surrender by Frost.

Clearly in their heads, TPA rode the momentum to take the next two games and seal the championship with a 3-1 victory.  And although Frost had their own fans and following, you couldn’t help but feel the overwhelming electricity in the Galen Center as this Cinderella story came to an end with the incessant chant – “TPA! TPA! TPA!”.  Seemingly coming out of nowhere, no one expected the team to win.

Instead, TPA proved that in League of Legends, everything is possible.

Didn’t get a chance to catch all the action from this weekend?  Keep your eyes peeled for the full game recaps coming shortly, and be sure to check out Riot’s VODs of the event here.

Fantastic games really. Sort of a lesson to Riot in what they need to improve, that being said I have no doubt that LoL is the future of esports now. And great great job by TPA. Toyz was just insanely good the whole tournament, especially against Azubu Frost. I’d have serious nightmares about facing his Oriana.

I really enjoyed the finals, I watched most of it and I’m not even a MOBA fan! The teamwork, strategy, and commentators were great. Grats to TPA, they pretty much dominated the whole time.

Azubu Frost should’ve been DQ’ed, they’re still going home with like 200K winnings even after the silly 30K slap on the wrist.
