Pinch yourself, you may dreaming.
Blizzard have answered our prayers and are giving us basically everything we wanted.
In today’s Developers Update Chris Sigaty has revealed a plethora of updates coming with or around the release of Heart Of The Swarm.
The stuff that has been hinted at in this post is making my nerd senses tingle.
- Multiplayer resume from replay
- Global Play
- Multi-language Support
- Clan/Group System
- Unranked Matchmaking
- Multiplayer replay viewing
I’m pretty sure even the most casual fan of StarCraft 2 knows how much of a big deal some of these changes are.
Multiplayer resume from replay — “We want LAN,” the chant that has echoed through the StarCraft 2 scene.
We have been demanding a solution to the disconnect issue that has plagued the StarCraft 2 eSports scene since launch and we finally have it. It seems at first glance we will be getting a feature that is as simple as re-joining a game via the replay. Finally we will no longer get another PartinG vs MKP that blew up at the GSTL finals.
The other updates seem to be moving towards making StarCraft 2 a more social experience.
Global play, Multiplayer replay viewing and clan system are all big steps towards creating a more social experience.
Unless you are deeply involved in a team, the social experience for StarCraft 2 is basically zero. These latest changes are set to make it so you can sit down with friends and enjoy the game on a more casual level, you can choose to watch a replay to learn the game more, or use the new “clan/group system” that is set to improve the social experience.
These changes are definitely going to help the social experience and it is all for a greater eSports experience. Online tournaments can work more seamlessly with shared replays to cast from and the issue of a disconnect can easily be crushed.
Expect to see these changes come either with Heart Of The Swarm or slightly after as we are not likely going see another major patch before the expansion.
How excited are you for this deluge of changes?
