Blizzard has officially released the StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm opening cinematic trailer and it is beautiful. In fact, it’s almost enough to make you wonder when they’re going to quit their day job and run away to Hollywood to make movies.
Heart of the Swarm, the second part of the planned StarCraft 2 trilogy, is an expansion that concentrates on the Zerg race campaign while bringing additional units and multiplayer changes to the game. The cinematic introduces the Zerg — invading and potentially decimating a new planet. The inhabitants aren’t happy but seem to be at a loss to stop it, as even their mechs are overpowered and out numbered.
The narrative of the invasion is from the perspective of the Queen of Blades and the plot of Heart of the Swarm concentrates on her character as the protagonist, needless to say, you will be seeing quite a bit of her.
For the sake of those who have yet to play StarCraft 2 at all — and this video may make you want to — I’ll step away from anything else plot related and just say that even for non StarCraft 2 players, the Heart of the Swarm opening cinematic is very well done.
For those waiting patiently for the expansion to drop, you can take the Heart of the Swarm opening cinematic as a reminder of how close the expansion is and start planning your excuses to call out of work on March 12th.
