Popular StarCraft 2 player Ilyes ‘Stephano’ Satouri has been suspended from playing for the rest of October following a questionable conversation with fellow player Samayan ‘BlinG’ Kay of Team Dignitas.
During the conversation — which took place during one of Kay’s livestreams — Stephano made comments alluding to having had sex with a minor. “Sam I have abused of a child yesterday,” Stephano wrote, following up with “14 yo.” when Kay replied with “hahahahaha what?” Stephano then commented that he “might only be interested in milfs and kids now” before realizing that Kay had been streaming the game.
Screen caps of the full conversation are available here and here. Language may be inappropriate for some.
Following the incident, Stephano made an attempt to apologize via twitter, adding that it was a “private joke” and “nothing serious”. Unfortunately, this was not good enough for fans who began emailing his sponsors about his behavior.
Evil Geniuses has issued an official response to the matter saying that:
“Today, Evil Geniuses announces that French Zerg player Ilyes “Stephano” Satouri has been suspended without pay for the remainder of October, following his recent inappropriate comments. We sincerely apologize to the respective organizers of these tournaments for any inconvenience the last-minute cancellations may cause”, the statement reads. “That apology, however, obviously comes as secondary to a much more significant and direly-needed apology for Stephano’s inexcusable comments themselves. An apology in his own words can be found at the bottom of this post, but additionally, everyone at Evil Geniuses – including management, players, and staff – would like to sincerely apologize for these comments. They do not reflect our company’s sense of morality, behavior and propriety, and they will not be tolerated.”
The suspension will prevent Stephano from participating in both DreamHack Bucharest and The GD Invitational. And Evil Geniuses has stated that that may not be the end of the matter, and that Stephano may be in for more punishment.
