Path of Exile Tops 2 Million Users and Teases New Ability
5 Comments

There’s plenty of new coming out of Grinding Gear Games this week regarding their free-to-play action-RPG Path of Exile which is currently chugging along in open beta and looks to launch in September of this year. Updates and hotfixes are constantly rolling out as players help shape the game into one of the most fun online action-RPG experiences out there. If you haven’t checked out Path of Exile you should do so now. If you’re a fan of the game, let’s take a look at some of the latest news for PoE.

Path of Exile Reaches 2 Million Users

Grinding Gear Games has announced the Path of Exile has now eclipsed the mark of 2 million registered users, and has done so quickly. Open beta began only two months ago, and since then PoE has received much praise from both fans and the media. Now of course ‘registered users’ doesn’t necessarily mean that 2 million people are playing or have played the game, but that is still a good indication of just how much attention this game has gotten since going into open beta on January 23rd.

“We’re really pleased with Path of Exile’s reception. It blew our expectations out of the water and continues to grow every day,” said Chris Wilson, producer for Grinding Gear Games. “The continued feedback and support from our fans has been great. We expect to add a lot of new content and features during the Open Beta period as we approach full release later this year.”

Patch 0.10.4 Teaser

The devs gave us a glimpse of a couple of things coming in the 0.10.4 update in the form of an image which showcases two incoming chages.

According to the forum announcement, the image above shows us two things coming in the next Path of Exile update. The most obvious of the two is the Book of Skill which is described in the tooltip over in the inventory area. When players receive passive skill points and respec points via quests, they will now receive books in their inventory which can be consumed in order to use. Books are not transferable to other characters. The new delivery system helps to make players feel more rewarded for their efforts, as well as bringing more attention to the fact that you have passive skill points or respec points available.

The other teaser from the above image is the skill which is active and creating an aura around the character. The devs say that it is an ability that was intended for player use from the beginning, but due to balancing issues was relegated to use by NPC’s only. We don’t have any more details on this new ability at the moment, although Path of Exile forum posters are speculating that it is some form of Ice Shield. We should be getting more details on the ability at some point early next week, as the patch is due out sometime next week.

Great Developers, great game. A joy to be a part of it all. I can’t say that about too many gaming experiences

I wonder how much of an influence Kripp had on this. I’m not a fan of the guy, but seriously 4k+ Viewers daily on twitch, and then they all tell there friends. No doubt that’s not the same 4k peeps everyday.

He’s not the only one, there are several streamers and I’m sure it didn’t hurt the popularity. I like the game personally, but there is so much it still needs to keep me playing long term.

Love the game, great to jump in and out anytime you feel. You wouldn’t know it’s an Indie game at first glance.
