New Star Wars Spin Off Movies in the works

Star Wars Movies; a topic that many people hold close to their hearts. A topic that has been the dividing factors of many friendships and households. ”Return of the Jedi” one will say. “No. no, A New Hope. Its the true classic”, says another. “Episode 1 is where its at” said no-one ever. Now there is news on the horizon that may further splinter the ”fans” from the “die-hards”, as news is emerging about a set of Star Wars spin off movies that are potentially in the works.

By now, no matter if you’re a die hard fan or just a passing observed, you should already know that back in October, The Walt Disney Company
purchased the rights to the Star Wars franchise and has already begun planning the 7th, 8th and 9th Installment, with director J.J. Abrams confirmed on board for episode VII.

During Disney’s quarterly earning report that took place yesterday, the company unveiled details on its plans to expand the universe further by releasing a set of stand alone spin off movies set within the franchise. With this information out in the open, sources close to the various project  began sending whispers into the void. Now, Entertainment weekly is reporting that two of the projects in the works are said to follow bounty hunter Boba Fett and a slightly younger Han Solo.

How are these going to work? Well this is an interesting one. With the new saga fast forwarding, it would appear these movies are back tracking into the original saga, with Han Solo’s story allegedly taking place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, whilst Boba Fetts story is slated to take place between Empire Strikes back and Return of the Jedi.

I’m sure you’ll agree its an interesting choice of films. Star Wars buffs will know that Boba is the son of Jango Fett, the bounty hunter from Episode 2 that’s DNA ended up as being the blueprint for the Clone Trooper and eventual Storm Troopers in the series. Other than that, not much is really known about the shady character, after all, the last we saw of him was back in Return of the Jedi as (SPOILER) he was hurled into the gaping maw of the Sarlacc.

Han on the other hand, is a difficult one. We know he was a smuggler, but was that always the case? What lead him there? If it is set in the period stated, we’ll most likely get some sort of nod to the event that lead him to be so deeply sought after by notorious criminal Jabba the Hutt. But before that? Who knows. Then the bigger question is, who will play Han solo? Afterall, the trade mark figure is and always will be, Harrison Ford. With age catching upto the movie great, sure his figure could be used as a base line, but everything else?

All we can really say with conviction is that, if Disney doesn’t pull this off right, we’ll no doubt have another disturbance in the force, as a million voices all cry out at once…

So are we gonna have Star Wars movies in theaters every year or 2 for the next 10 years? I really wished they would have come out with at least 7 before deciding to do this. I would feel a lot more at ease seeing what Disney can do with the franchise before messing with the original Star Wars characters. It feels “money grubbing” but I’m still excited to see what they can do.

It couldn’t possibly be any worse than what Lucas has been doing (“I changed the color of this planet…and made it a cartoony moon of the Death Star, so let’s re-release”).

      • Ravenstorm

It can always get worse. Jar Jar Binks was only the beginning.

JJ Abrams talking to Gabe Newell on HL/Portal movie now…

Boba Fett kills the Sarlac, crawls out, survives, and eventually goes on to lead the Mandalorians and join the Republic helping Luke in the books. Dude is a outright bad ass. They better stick to this in the movies.

      that sounds awful

We can only hope the EU books get the attention here, and not some garbage pulled out of… yeah.

  • Revanhavoc

It’s going to be all about the script. Good God please don’t let Lucas near it.

We can take it from here, old master. Just let it go…Let is go Lucas…No seriously!

    LET GO!

    • Ravenstorm

If I were a Sith I would kill master Lucas just to be sure.

No Ford, No Solo. I dont give a f**k what they do, cuz Star Wars’ story is done. this is like “Joey” the spinoff from friends, total garbage just to sell merch

going to the well too many times imo.  any new movies should be entirely based on new characters, UNLESS they intend to film older versions and use the actors that played them in the original episodes.  even with that, they should be introducing an entirely new generation of heroes as the focus going forward.

I think the Bobo Fit thing could be good, he is such a cool character that never got mainstream love.  We were all just so burned by the last three movies (or first 3 however you want to look at it).  I just hope they keep Lucas out of it.  I know he was the creator, and he did a good job.  I think he burned himself out over the years and just doesn’t care anymore.

I hope the Han Solo thing gets shoved under the rug because if it isnt Harrison Ford then its not Han.  No actor in their right mind would take that roll….it would be like committing suicide.

The universe has thousands of years of lore and thousands of years to work with. Find new heroes and just use the Lore that exist.

Or they can just not care make a high dollar poopy movie because I’m going to throw money at it to see it. I just hope I get to see a beautiful sunset and not a train wreck.

Its all about the writing, and acting.  If done well, this could be awesome, or it could stink and ruin the franchise.

Since they won’t be able to cast Harrison Ford as Han Solo, it’s pretty likely there won’t be a spin-off about him. Period. And while I love the Fett-man, most people — quite simply — do not give a rat’s ass about Boba Fett, thus also making the likelihood of a spin-off movie about him fairly slim.

Case in point — these rumours are all fairly erroneous and unlikely to see the light of day.

They’re going to screw Han’s story up. It’s well established that he was an imperial pilot and saved Chewy and other Wookies and that’s why he became a smuggler and why Chewy has a life debt to Han.
