After accidentally confirming Call of Duty: Black Ops II on Tuesday, Activision and developer Treyarch have finally unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming shooter.
Instead of retreading the first game’s 1960s setting, Black Ops II opts for futuristic warfare.
The trailer starts out letting the viewer know that the narrator — Frank Woods from the first Black Ops — is in 2025. So throughout the trailer, and presumably the game, he is recalling events that are to take place in the next 13 years.
I have to say that I’m extremely relieved that Black Ops II isn’t just more of the same game we played in 2010.
One of the major problems in the Call of Duty series is how stale the games get with sequel after sequel. Taking a new direction with Black Ops II will give us a completely different setting as well as an unfamiliar arsenal.
On that note, why even name the game Black Ops II? It’s going to be interesting to see how the two Black Ops games will be connected despite taking place 50 years apart.
Is this what you wanted to see from Black Ops II? Does the new setting make you more or less excited for the next Call of Duty?
