Trion Worlds released a video explaining what Defiance raiders are going to be in the upcoming game and how to deal with them. First of all: in Defiance, raiders are bad. They are not after your epic loot, they are after your head. You must kill them.
Defiance raiders are “a large interspecies horde of lawless scavengers that terrorize the outlands of the post Arkfall world.” The video goes on to say that Defiance raiders pillage the towns and villages for their resources and kill or enslave the residents. “They are homicidal zealots who are granted a savage bravado by their vast numbers, drug addled delusions and willingness to follow the orders of whoever wants to lead them.”
Players are advised to “frag” groups of Defiance raiders or use their sniping abilities to get rid of them from a distance. The video shows off cool weaponry the raiders in Defiance will have and the UI players can expect to utilize against them.
Defiance is a game created by Trion Worlds in conjunction with a television series on the SyFy cable network. Both are set to premier in April.
In the near future, Votans have come to earth with hopes of settling on the plant. Unsurprisingly, the existing residents took issue with this. After years of fruitless negotiations, a war broke out. Votans, a collection of different planetary species set on their own survival, inadvertently released terraformer technology when their ships were shot down. This changed the earth’s landscape and brought about dangers to everyone involved. In order to survive, cooperative groups have formed. The result is often human and Votan alliances. In Defiance, raiders have loosely formed groups to take the recourses from those that might have them.
The video shows game play, but it is safe to assume that raiders in Defiance will be a threat in the television series as well. Let’s just hope the TV stars get the video too.
