Final Fantasy VII Finally Arrives

After years of waiting and an accidental fake out last week, Final Fantasy VII for the PC has finally been released! It’s also brought an amazing new launch trailer with it.

Heralded as one of the greatest games ever made, you can now relive the nostalgia without digging for your old Playstation discs.

New features added to the game include an achievement system, with 36 new achievements to unlock, and a character “booster pack” allowing players to increase their HP, MP and Gil levels to the maximum with the push of a button. The game also features Cloud Saves, allowing you to load up a saved game from any PC with the game installed.

Final Fantasy VII is available for purchase here in the US and here for the EU and UK.

I found that FFVII doesn’t hold up as well as my memory remembers. Sad to say, but I would not buy it for nostalgia sake.

  1 – the Materia system. I SO wanted Square to use it in another game. Damn them!
  
  2 – The battle arena in gold saucer.
  
  3 – The cutscenes blew me away – as this was the first PSX game I ever played.

It’s cool that they are bringing some of the awesome classic RPG’s back, but at the same time It kind of sucks that there aren’t any new single player RPG’s that have lived up to the standards of the classics. I feel like Mass Effect almost had it, but then they burned hard with the disappointment that Mass Effect 3 brought. I can’t wait for a developer to get brave enough to launch a new IP, that doesn’t disappoint. Hopefully soon? maybe? one day? Please?

Also, the achievements are almost as basic as terminator salvation (which had “finish level 1″ “finish level 2″ etc. – nothing else). And I don’t know if you played diablo 2 or something similar with a trainer, but having that button even AVAILABLE so feckin spoils the experience.

And I couldn’t even find out if it was pay-to-boost. Didn’t hear any complaints about it so I assume no – but that would have been the ultimate failure here.

The Fans have been asking for a HD remake like in the movie Advent Children, and after all these years what do we get, a bloody port.

    It’s not on Steam, you can only buy it from the SE store from the looks of it. The 10$ is a limited time, regular price is 12$… it should be like 7-8$. 10$ is silly imo.
