Players who have been waiting on NCSoft’s upcoming Blade and Soul will be happy to know that the company has launched a shiny new website for western players.

The site already has plenty of things for us to look at including concept art, race and class descriptions, and a FAQ.

Oh.. And did I mention an action-packed trailer filled with battles, explosions, and ninja-style wall running.  Does any one else feel a bit sorry for “floppy bunny-eared guy”?

As with most Eastern games that slowly make their way to the West, I’m interested to see what changes will be made to attempt to make it appeal to the audience.

Personally, I’m hoping not too many.

NCSoft Launches The Blade And Soul Website

I am curious to see how they so do martial arts combat in an MMO, esp. in what looks like a PvP setting.   Will it feel more like a fighting game or just the same old game mechanics?   The movement system also seems interesting but it’s the overall gameplay that will count.

And I’d feel a lot more sorry for floppy-eared old guy if he could have just kept on his shirt :)

You can dress up and customize how ever you like. Hell im not sure but if you can (meaning that I don’t no I’m just guessing so don’t flame me about it) probably can dress up as a frog and pummel people into the ground.

  • Olli Liimatta

Gary is probably going to bash this game to ground because it is too grindy and praising GW2 at the same time.

You’re just assuming that because he did that with Tera, which he was absolutely spot on about, he’s going to do that for blade and soul? Don’t be upset because it’s true. If Blade and Soul turns out to be be grindy and boring like Tera then I not only expect Gary to bash it into the ground, I feel that he would be obligated to his fan base to bash it into the ground.

Don’t be upset because what he said about Tera was true. Oh and he wasn’t the only member of the gamebreaker staff saying those things. So gtfo.

Yea I dont believe Gary will bash this game….if he does it wont be as much as he did to Tera – ible.

But Tera was really a let down had nice story and everything else it was just the gameplay that got to me…..

That is way too modern mmo game style…..sigh

      • Olli Liimatta

Thanks to that video i almost didnt play tera at all.
BUT one night i just tought that i will give it a try and i had FUN.
Yes i know the game is grindy but the gameplay makes that grind fun.
If you really want to play MMO without that grind then you should really go play RPG.
Even GW2 has that same grind only difference is that you dont need to go talk to questgiver. Yes i have played Gw2. lvl33 Warrior, lvl45 Ranger and lvl20 Elementalist but i stopped because i didnt like the gameplay.

The reason i posted here in the first place was that if you run a show and you know you got thousands of people watching it and start bashing and throwing boxes around (really was that necessary??! really?!) you might have some kind of affect for those people? So maybe next time there is game you dont like be more subtle when talking about your opinion and i dont mean that you should not say bad things about that game. Of course people need to have opinion but please dont shove it in someone’s face just let them make that opinion themselves.

Greetings from Finland and now i’ll gtfo.

(p.s. Yes Gary was not the only member of GBTV staff saying those things but they didnt start bashing the game and start throwing boxes around.)

I really like the martial arts approach I think MMOs should and will take this more “realistic combat” gameplay direction rather than tab, hotkey, ui-focused, number/dice based, auto-homing projectiles, non-collision based, and rather static combat.

I too have played hotkey style MMOs for years and going to the “action combat” style games, has shown me more potential of that combat system, along with fun and reward for skillful play than mainstream MMO games.

It’s not that the “realism” aspect is needed, but that combat system becomes more intuitive and typically more game world/environment based rather than UI based. You can pay attention to the action at hand than looking at numbers and other graphical UI indicators that basically indirectly tell you what to do (if you understand the game well enough). I find such combat oriented games much more easy to pick up and adapt to the controls, it’s like learning how to move a virtual body in a sense and learning what it is capable of.

Dont know how the game will turn out but the artwork is beautiful.

Arena Net, I love you but pay attention; this is a game trailer. Study hard.

    • http://twitter.com/Graymarch Graymarch

What makes you think Arena Net made this game? It was made by Tencent published by NC soft…..

Dont give others the wrong impression…

      • BBarrikade

JH is saying this is an example of what trailers should look like, rather than the head-scratcher that A-net just released.

Thanks for that. Also NCsoft is the publisher for both games, so there is a link there.

Let’s do some Fortune Telling. En Masse closes its doors the week this game launches.
