BioShock Infinite‘s “Heavy Hitters” series keeps on truckin’, and this time we get our first look at the game’s new Siren enemies.

These creepy, floating ladies hover around Booker’s slain foes, only to raise the dead baddies with a sweet melody. And by sweet melody, I mean something that sounds like Bjork and Yoko Ono’s lovechild yodeling while scraping nails on a chalkboard.

While we don’t get to see much of the Siren herself, it’s cool hearing Infinite‘s Creative Director — and Irrational Games CEO — Ken Levine discuss the history behind this new enemy type. Levine states that the Siren is a “nod to a major social movement at the turn of the century.” That movement?

The belief that people could actually communicate with the dead.

In the “Heavy Hitters” series we’ve already seen Motorized Patriots, brutal Handymen, the chilling Boys of Silence and now we have the ever-so-creepy Sirens.

Stay tuned to GAMEBREAKER.tv for all of your BioShock Infinite news leading up to the game’s October launch.
