New Trailer And Beta Access Packages Emerge For The War Z
6 Comments

A new gameplay trailer for the War Z has hit the interwebs showcasing some PvP combat at night.  A pair of survivors skulk around in search of prey and manage to take over a sweet bunker filled with supplies.  One of the players fires a sniper rifle which makes so much noise it’s sure to attract lurching zombies from neighboring blocks.  The only thing that is louder is the characters’ footsteps.  Put away the six inch heels, fellas, this is the zombie apocalypse!

Hammerpoint Interactive has released some details about how to get your grubby little hands all over this zombie-encrusted survival MMO.  For $19.49, you can snag the Survivor package which grants you access to the beta on October 31and gives you a special forum badge.  The Pioneer and Legend packages (costing $29.99 and $49.99 respectively) let you into the action during the alpha on October 15.  In addition, those packages offer three guest keys, differing amounts of in-game currency, and “Stronghold” map server hosting time.  These prices will go up after October 17, so if you’re interested in a new zombie shooter in a persistent world just in time for Halloween, make sure you nab these packages soon.

Legend = 49.99 and it will go up? So am I to believe that’s what they are thinking they’re going to sell for at final release? LMAO

Have you even seen the benefits of legend? you get $30 of it back ingame, along with 6 months of private server and beta guest keys.

Just get the $20, which will be $30 on release… $30 is good.

You know what? It’s preposterous to ask for 50 f. Bucks for alpha. Even the other “packages” are just plain pathetic. All we’ve seen about the game is a couple of gameplay footage videos at 720p (basically single player walkaround-shoot-static-zombies clips), a flyover of a I admit decent looking scenery (with a childish editing ending) and a series of months-old screenshots. Everything else is smoke and I seriously hope they present way more before offering basically B2P packages for alphas and betas.

It’s getting out of hand. I do not mind the “Minecraft” model, since it seems to be a nice funding option for indie developers to realize their dreams (and potentially ours if the game is worth it), but this kicks it overboard.

Now I personally do not give a Romney’s ass if you get bonuses included in those prices. Bonuses of what? For what? For a basically unknown product? WarZ developers, I was giving you praise that you jumped on the DayZ phenomenon and promised awesomeness extremely quickly in the genre’s life cycle, even if it felt fishy in it’s presentation and timing (when DayZ was blowing the interwebs out), but that fishiness is now backed up by abusing a pricing model and backing it up with what basically looks like a generic FPS game with RPG elements.

A personal rant, but I’m sure a lot of people eagerly awaiting news and getting this crapbomb feel the same way. If you don’t, don’t bother replying. I know I have the choice to not spend a dime on it (and I won’t): a fact is clear though – the pricing model is highly questionable and even offensive.

p.s.: Oh and yeah: The tension, survival, “feeling” of DayZ and the whole philosophy of making your gaming experience matter is absent in WarZ, completely absent. At least it looks that way. And if you’re expecting a similar game, turn the page, you won’t get it.

In my honest opinion, wait for UndeadLabs Class 3 and Class 4

I wont play Day Z because I am nuts about quality assurance stuff and like a good “quality of life” in gameplay where there is easy control mechanisms, decent amount of control/ui customization, minimum amount of steps per action, consistent mechanics and not gimped by things like lag. Day Z really lacks on that, but put it into a smooth running game and I am all in.
