ArcheAge recently revealed in their flagging system that it is indeed possible to become a successful pirate in their game.
After reaching 3000 negative karma by doing bad things such as killing fellow players or stealing from them, the game turns you “red” and grants you the option to join up with other like minded outlaws to pilfer till your pockets are filled with riches.
Granted, you no longer have access to the starting continents and guards will attack you on sight, but players will find a special island designed for your kind with NPCs and quests galore.
