Dragonball Z mod makes Goku look good in Half Life engine
A brand new teaser recently released showing off the latest efforts of mod team, ESF on their decade old Dragonball Z mod, Earth’s Special Forces. While the game looks stunning in the new teaser, the interesting part is the fact that the mod is using the engine that created Half Life.
Goldsource or GoldSrc was first released back in 1998. Given a number of tweaks and additions, we can see from the teaser that the engine still holds up to this day.
Seeing Goku battle it out with Frieza from the series in the engine really hearkens back to the actual anime. Hearing the sounds and witnessing the fast paced action is icing on the already amazing effort from the mod team.
As to what can players expect from the Dragonball Z mod. The team summed it up nicely.
“Select your favorite character and fly, power up, transform, melee, and beam your enemies into pulp. Each character is given signature moves and abilities to compliment different style of play. Some are stronger in hand-to-hand combat, others are better with energy attacks. Play in three different game modes: deathmatch, team deathmatch, and capture the Dragonballs.”
Also know that while this visual update is impressive, the mod is still being worked on. The team is currently quashing bugs, optimizing performance, and improving character animations during combat.
If you have wanted to find a DBZ game that pushes your skill and truly places you in the role of one of your favorite characters from the series, then this is the mod to keep an eye on.
If you really want to play now, you can get a non-shiny version of the Dragonball Z mod here. Only thing to keep in mind is you will need a copy of Half Life in order to play it and there are still bugs.
