I think you got stuck because you stopped doing the tutorial. It told you to open up your inventory and try dropping an item.

Doesn’t the sure-move allow you to move diagonally? Anyways, a great vid, and a great game. Really took me back a couple of decades.

wanna try a somewhat easy roguelike? go for brogue. has beautiful ascii graphics. don’t ask me how.

Since two people have already told you what you did wrong in the tutorial, I’ll skip that. Some of those doors could have been used if you had moved diagonally. You use ‘wait’ to let a mob get close to you so you can make the first strike. Items changed per game NOT per floor AND they told you what they did after you used the first one.
