Where is GlaDoS when you need her? Actually, where is the exorcist priest? I don’t think GlaDoS has anything that could help against a horde of Cthulhu creatures. Holy water may not be enough, either. Pack an extra pair of underwear, aliens. This journey will contain many things both fearsome and butt-clenching.

Magrunner: Dark Pulse is a Portal inspired Cthulhu hellscape brought to you by the sick f@#$s at Frogwares, creators of the surprisingly benign Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. It features cubes, platforms, hand-cannons, and some kind of butt-faced crawling creatures covered in tentacles and goo. No, this isn’t hentai or some Naruto fanfic, it’s an actual video game. A game that likely requires a nearby toilet to play. In fact, if it was a boxed product, it would likely come with an extra pair of tighty whities.

Magrunner is a downloadable title headed to XBLA, PSN, and PC. You play as Dax C. Ward, a young talented Magtech user. Dax was originally named Yoshi Takamoto, but the developers discovered that Yoshi was the name of a Super Mario character, and that they “simply were not aware of [him] (we in the Ukraine are more PC players rather than console, besides there were almost no consoles here in the 90s).” I find not knowing who Yoshi was to be amazing. I can’t even imagine growing up in the 90′s and not knowing Yoshi. The world isn’t as small as we sometimes think.

The games story hinges on a Corporation in the near future recruiting young brilliant minds into a deep space exploration project. According to the devblog, the entire setting and mechanics have been reworked a few times in order to provide a better experience, something the developers attribute to being indie. There’s no definite release date as of yet. Magrunner: Dark Pulse is expected to hit digital shelves on the increasingly trendy date of “Soon™.”

Minecraft 2.0… A little truth in humor?

Mojang “announced” Minecraft 2.0 this morning, and if the video above is any indication we’re in for a lot of changes. Stainglass windows, diamond laying chickens and floating sheep are all included in the completely revamped, next-gen version of everyone’s favorite block building game.

The full list of changes were made available on Mojang’s site and I copied a few of my favorites over for you to take a peek at.

Okay.. So maybe not so much. Once again, we are looking at a rather elaborate and time consuming April Fools joke. But, that doesn’t mean that everything  here is a lie does it?

Maybe not. Currently, Mojang is working on update 1.6 for the game and some fans on the r/Minecraft subreddit believe that certain changes will be appearing in the game. It’s fairly obvious that we won’t be seeing a lot of these things, but I think those playing the guessing game may be pretty on target with their thoughts about the ones we will be seeing.

The Minecraft Real Life Seasons mod allows your biome to change with real world seasons.

One of the great things about Minecraft is that it has always allowed for a lot of creativity — not just for in-game builds, but also in the kinds of mods that people have been able to come up with. Since the game’s alpha “launch” players have been creating player skins, texture packs and a variety of mods that do things like modifying the in-game mobs, creating new mobs like the weeping angels from Doctor Who, change the way certain blocks work, or even add vendors and currency to a server.

Modders have even played  around with the weather to a certain extent.  And now, a modder named TQuin has decided to add seasons to the game with the Minecraft Real Life Seasons mod.

Who cares about seasons?

Okay, yes. Minecraft already — kind of — has seasons. Or, at least we have those different weather areas known as biomes. So if players decide they want to be somewhere with snow, they could just simply walk for a while and start building a house in a wintery biome.

But, there is a downside to this.

The weather in the biomes doesn’t change, so, if you decide you’re sick of snow, you have to relocate.  With the Minecraft Real Life Seasons mod, you’ll get a change of scenery four times a year — six, if you count the spring and winter holiday looks.

How does it work?

According to the creator of the Minecraft Real Life Seasons mod, TQuin, it is launcher-based and operates by rotating the texture packs already available in the game.  He has offloaded the modification process to happen outside of the game — which will negate any possibility of conflict with other mods  you may have installed. I am also guessing will help keep the mod from slowing things down.

The mod is available for download through minecrafties.com, but it should be noted that if you want the full visual effect seen in the video, you’re going to need to pick up a few more mods to go with it.

While there’s only two truly new bundles, I managed to find three more that might be new to you. One of them is even “free”, although as always, I do suggest that if you like the games, you ask the devs to take your money.  Failure to do so tends to result in less games after a while.

**There are a couple of notes on this bundle. The first asks you to check out some indie journalists and another about a kickstarter for an indiegogo for a game called Ithaka of the Clouds.

The game has a demo on it’s site, so you can even check it out before deciding if you’d like to donate.

You can pick up the game for free using the purchase button, all you need is an email address and a password.  However, if you feel inclined, you are given the option to pay something. The bundle has suggested amounts of: $2.00, $5.00, $10.00 and $25.00. Or you can set your own amount.

As always, if you like any of the games, I encourage you to throw some money the developers’ way.

The Milkstone Studios Bundle – Ends ?

Mojam 2013 is officially over and those who donated will be receiving eight brand new games.

Mojang‘s second annual game jam collaboration event with The Humble Bundle, Mojam 2013 came to a close on Saturday after raking in $478,620.06 for charity.  The event, which took place over three days and included some of Mojang’s indie friends began with Mojang asking the gaming community to help them decide the themes for each game by selecting two words out of a rather long list.

Mojang then split into three teams while each of the other dev companies comprised a team each.  Each Mojam 2013 team had a different theme based off of the words most selected by the gaming community — and it seemed that quite a few people really liked the theme “nuclear” as four out of the six themes listed on Mojang’s site involved it in some way.

The themes listed for Mojam 2013 are:

• French Nuclear Spaceship – Mojang’s Stiped Zebra team
• Endless Nuclear Kittens – Mojang’s Giraff Macka team
• Nuclear Pizza War – Mojang’s Cyborg Hippo team
• Nuclear Endless War – Wolfire‘s team
• Wasteland Kings – Vlambeer’s team
• Interplanetary Void – Ludosity‘s team

Missed Mojam 2013?

Okay.. Don’t freak out if you want these games and missed the game jam.  According to the post on Mojang’s site the team at Humble Bundle have agreed to keep the page up a bit longer, so it’s still possible to donate some cash and get a bunch of new games.  The benefit here is, you can now see what the games are before donating.
