It’s Saturday again and you know what that means. It’s time to highlight another awesome indie game!
Well.. Not just an indie game, since I’m going to talk about a few this time.
With all this Steam summer sale noise, I had originally thought about doing a spotlight on Machinarium, a beautifully stylized point and click adventure from Amanita Design. But, as I thought about it more, I realized they have several beautiful games in a similar style — one of which was released recently.
So rather than just highlight the one game. I thought I’d highlight the company.
Amanita Design is an indie company based in the Czech Republic that was founded in 2003. The company’s debut game was a free flash game called Samorost. Since then the company has made a total of seven games. One of these — Osada — is an interactive music video. Some of the others were short point and click games made for Nike, BBC and The Polyphonic Spree.
All of Amanita’s games have a very stylized, almost whimsical, look that somewhat borders on being animated colage, and they all feature beautiful soundtracks. The one caveat that I should make is that for some people, the theme of the games might be a little more abstract than they might be used to. But this is one of the many things features of their games that makes them unique.
If you’re looking to try their games out first, all but the most recent three games are available to play for free, and Samrost 2 as well as Machinarium both have demos available for download.
Give them a go, and let us know what you think!
