I’ve been poking around on the internet again and have come across something I think may make RTS fans pretty happy: An international group of volunteer game developers named Wildfire Games has announced a tenth expansion to an RTS game they’ve been working on. The game is titled 0 A.D. and features Hellenistic civilizations such as Athens, Macedonia, and Sparta.
The game is completely open source and players do have permission to modify and redistribute it as well as use some of the art and sound assets for other projects. The developers have also stated that the game is free-to-play and will continue to be.
Yes, the game is available to play in it’s current alpha stage. Players can check out IndieDB for links to Mad, Linux, and PC versions as well as all the details on what this version of the alpha includes.
The developers do have a request, however. They are looking for people to help them complete the game. That includes people for sound, documentation, programming, and even making YouTube videos.
They have also issued a special call for anyone who is familiar with ancient Indian history and architecture.
