I wouldn’t say they’re “stupid”. Obviously the sales of iPhones do not directly correlate with the reduction of sales of handheld gaming devices. think it’s more the fact that these “phones” are so widespread; and they have the capability to play games, then the consumer may tend to be dissuaded from purchasing an HGD since they already own a gaming-capable device in the form of a smartphone.

I really appreciate these kinds of stories. The growth of mobility has ALL of the PC manufacturers shivering in their booties. If companies like HP and Microsoft are scrambling to get into the mobile industry, don’t you think game developers will follow?

It’s somewhat uncertain, but imagine those hardliners who fought to keep the arcades going when NES came out. Sorry bro, but l`ll save my quarters for when I`m down on Sunset Blvd. late at night getting mugged by a cross-dressing escort (oh look she dropped her wig…)requiring me to call my granny afterwards to come pick me up.

This is nintendo’s philosophy of not wanting to include anything but games into their system coming to bite them in their ass. They refuse to put dvd/blueray player in any console, took them a while before they put any extra multimedia capabilities into their DS. They either add phone functionality on their mobile systems or they continue to lose. Would you buy a nintendo made gaming phone?
