Yoshi-P approves FFXIV: A Realm Reborn Magitek armor.
Final Fantasy fans! It’s time to get excited because we have some pictures of some fancy new Magitek armor that will be making it’s way into A Realm Reborn and it is glorious.
For those who may be unfamiliar with it “Magitek” is the general term for technology that is powered using magic. This “technology” first appeared in Final Fantasy VI where magic was forcibly extracted from espers — VI’s term for the magical creatures such as Bahamut, Ifrit and Shiva that appear throughout the Final Fantasy series.
In XIV, Magitek returned, but instead of stealing magic from espers, they are powered by a substance called ceruleum which is created by draining crystals of their energy.
Magitek Armor
The images that were dropped today on the official XIV: A Realm Reborn blog are of Magitek armor, a mechanical weapon in the form of an exo-suit (or a mech). The armor, itself was a beloved feature of FFVI and will make an amazing addition to XIV.
(I’m sorry, allow me to gush and get all starry-eyed here, Final Fantasy VI was my all-time favorite, partially because of the Magitek.)
According to the post — which contained a few images of a new area and the armor itself — what we are looking at are mockups. However, it seems that Yoshi-P has approved the designs and the team just needs to move on to polish.
I’m assuming polish means in how they move and function.
Because… Seriously, the Magitek armor picture we’re looking at here looks perfect. It takes me back to the original design used in VI and that makes me more than happy. I’m ecstatic. And I think a lot of Final Fantasy fans will be just as excited once they see it.
For those of you who have been paying close attention, you may have already known that Magitek armor would be appearing in A Realm Reborn. It even made an appearance in the trailer Square Enix had released earlier this year — viewable above.
Oh.. and just for reference, I decided to include one of the pieces of concept art for Magitek armor from Final Fantasy VI. See… Now you don’t even have to go looking for it.
