ArenaNet Releases An OSX Client For Guild Wars 2
13 Comments

ArenaNet isn’t playing around.  It’s been less than a month since launch and they’ve already done the unexpected by releasing a Guild Wars 2 client for OSX.

While the OSX client is still in beta, it is available for anyone who has purchased Guild Wars 2 to use.  Players using the client will have access to the same servers and features as those on PC.

This is an interesting move on ArenaNet’s part.  To my recollection, the only other MMO to have OSX support so close to launch was World of Warcraft.  However several have added support well after launch. The problem I generally see with this is that many people have no desire to join a game that’s already been running for a few years.  So,  I’ll be interested to see if adding support early on boosts GW2’s numbers further as they hit those people that otherwise wouldn’t be playing MMOs.

What server is Massively playing on?

Speaking of Blizzard releasing WoW with Mac client, they have released all their games with both PC and Mac support, at least since Warcraft 3.

I thought as much but wasn’t sure. But I do distinctly remember WoW coming out and a couple of friends of mine who use Macs exclusively picking it up.

Every Blizzard PC game I own, came with a Mac version on the disc.

<.< And I own ALL of them.

Good to hear.  When I was putting together a guild for SWTOR, several of my guidlies had to hassle with the windows boot programs.

Awesome!  It’ll be very interesting to see how the sales numbers increase now that A.N. has drastically increased their customer base.

I’m totally happy with this. I run bootcamp on my Mac and it’s nice when I don’t have to.

This is really good news for mac fans. Hope it runs well

    Yes! Yes! Yes!

Native Mac support is one of the reasons why WoW is so successful. This is an excellent move by Anet!

Huh, you can’t buy the digital game and then download the beta client?

I don’t have a problem paying for finished games. I do have a problem with paying to help fix a game. They should pay me.

Considering how unoptimized the PC client is, the Mac version is going to be a mess.

The only problem is that the OS X client isn’t optimized :(
