Guild Wars 2 Battle for Wycmire Swamp: Great Jungle Worm Boss

The availability of the Sylvari starting zones during the  Guild Wars 2 beta weekend lead to new discoveries, enjoyable questing experiences, and exciting world meta events!

While questing through Wychmire Swamp I suddenly found myself face-to-face with a Great Jungle Worm! This event, much like the human’s Shadow Behemoth, is the final chain in the Battle for Wychmire Swamp meta event. It exciting to see more of these events make their way into the game, especially at such an early level for players to experience.

While this event is not always active, it’s definitely one you don’t want to miss!

and you got sweet rewards from the chest at the end of the event too.

Yeah the loot off of this guy was mostly all greens for me. I did it about 6 times and was pretty stacked at the end of the beta. He spawns quite quickly.

that wurm looks exactly like the one in the norn starting area, just a different color and some other abilities, 1st time I see some form of copy paste in GW2. Not good for Boss variety I’m afraid.

um i really dont think they look exactly like each other. just some of the animation are the same.

      > that wurm looks exactly like the one in the norn starting area

Issormir (the norn tutorial boss) is smaller, doesn’t have spikes along its body, has a completely different head, different segments, different colors, moves in a different way, makes different sounds and spawns different adds.

Other than those differences, it’s completely identical.

Oh, it’s also a different level, has a different name and gives different rewards.

But really, all that could just have been caused by a bug in Arena Net’s clipboard, when they used the cut & paste. ;-)

      • http://twitter.com/Latinkuro Latinkuro

The fact that it spawns different adds, gives other rewards and is a different level is besides the point. It is a reskinned version of Issormir, some of the attack animations are exactly the same, like the aoe curling up it does. Now don’t get me wrong I love the game pre-purchased, played the bwe’s, can’t wait for it to release already (less than a month to go) but things like these have to pointed out so it doesn’t happen to often, if you really can’t see it than I’m sorry but you must be blind.

          >  It is a reskinned version of Issormir

It very objectively isn’t, as anyone can check by watching videos of the two fights, available both here and on YouTube.

The body segments are a different size and shape, the jungle worm has spikes along its body (Issormir doesn’t), the head is completely different (6 “teeth” instead of 4) , and the “AoE curling” is practically reversed (Issormir does a “scoop” movement, while this one does a “spin” movement), and Issormir doesn’t shoot projectiles or create poison clouds at all.

Yes, both are giant worms, and as such both are basically like a spine fixed to the ground with a mouth on the other end. If that’s your definition of “reskinned”, I guess you’re right. But most people’s definition is “same model with different texture map”, and that’s objectively not the case.

You have to be kidding me right? It’s not just a cheap copy/paste of Issormir — that jungle wurm is just that: a wurm. It’s not the same sub-species as issormir, but the same species all the same. There are several sub-species of wurm covering Tyria, some just get really, really big. I say it looks just different enough to be unique, but similar enough to not question its wurm lineage.

I absolutely love that you are automatically “in the fight” so to speak with these world bosses. I remember many a time in wow where my npc finder(add on) would go off and it would feel like a race to get people together and make it there and then you’d end up seeing someone else had already tagged him..just disappointment and frustration at that point because you don’t even want to help, well at least I didn’t.

With the way ArenaNet has it set up tho it’s pretty much a win/win scenario..if you are there you can be in the fight, it’s that simple. Love it!

Well you can still experience that in a different as I did in my first “encounter”. I saw it in the distance so I ran towards it but it died before I even got close enough to attack. :(

  • QSatu

I like the screenshot under the article, wish it was bigger =]

  • Diequex

    Interesting.

I semi-experienced this event. I was in said swamp and saw the worm in the distance…but on my way the adds that apparently “don’t do much damage” destroyed me before I could even participate, lol. Funny how people can so variably experienced such events.

It was killed when I was on my way back ): So I didn’t get to really fight it/get loot

What was your level? Should be around 15. You are going to be pretty squishy if you are 13 or less.

  • Jay

Why didn’t you show the sweet lootz, Mike S! ლ(ಠ益ಠლ) I am disappoint…

Hopefully they do another stress test so I can check this guy out.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/ITHF7XKYGVXFAPCDMDJTKHLBBU Lian Wan

      Release is soon enough.
I saw this multiple times but never saw the Shadow Behemoth. :(

      • Jay

I saw the Shadow Behemoth in closed beta, and he was glorious.

My body is ready for GW2…

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/ITHF7XKYGVXFAPCDMDJTKHLBBU Lian Wan

Well to be fair I spent a lot more time around there than in the swamp. Not sure why but I had more reason to stick around that area than the shadow behemoth area. Might be the two hearts that are relatively close as opposed to the shadow behemoth which is far from everything else.

          • Old Ben

There’s a renown heart and a skill challenge near the middle of the swamp. Plus a few other things nearby, like two waypoints, an asura gate to another zone, and that little shed with the book that must never be opened.

          • http://www.facebook.com/jonathan.hornsby.7 Jonathan Hornsby

I disagree; that book is a great thing to open if you’re looking for a challenge. Especially if you’re under leveled for the area.

          • Old Ben

You forgot the “Mwahahaha!” at the end.

  • fallos24

my jaw dropped when i first saw this guy erupt from the group. i had no idea what was coming from helping the npcs in previous tasks

  • Jado Cast

Didn’t get to do this fight, but looks fun!
