Turbine is celebrating The Lord of the Rings Online‘s fifth anniversary with a festival, two mini-games, rewards for long-tenured players, and a patch that addresses mostly minor issues.
The festival launches with a pair of new fireworks mini-games, one in Bree-land and one in the Shire — which finally makes use of the Methel-stage. The Bree-land one requires proper timing and execution, while the Hobbits — little pyromaniacs that they are — just want lots and lots of fireworks.
The Thorin’s Hall beer-fights also make their glorious return, now with three difficulty levels but the same head-smashing action. You can read about both events in a developer’s diary.
Finally, all players with active premium or VIP accounts before the 30th will receive rewards based on the date of their account’s creation, including a character portrait frame, fireworks bundle, and anniversary cloak for all players, and rewards up to an Azure Festival Steed for five-year veterans.
All in all, not bad for a game that takes place over the span of a few months. Hey, Frodo, walk a little faster, will ya?
