Another big name departs BioWare.

Over the last several months there has been a slew of lay-offs and resignations at BioWare. The most recent addition to this exodus is Daniel Erickson, former lead designer on SW:ToR. A tweet last week confirmed the rumours of his departure from the company.star wars the old republic mmorpg mmorpg BioWare Exodus

Mr Erickson has joined Rich Vogel and BioWare founders Dr.Ray Muzyka and Dr.Greg Zeschuk as the big kids who have officially left the pool. From this gamers stand point, the people left at BioWare are no longer the same people who were making games over the last 17 years, even if a few of them are still there their leadership has gone, along with a lot of brilliant people. It’s just not the same studio that gave us Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and Jade Empire. It can’t be good for SW:ToR to have lost it’s lead designer and executive producer.

Let me know what you guys think about the mass firings, resignations, and what it means for the future of BioWare.

Bioware is officially gone. There is a group of people there who will continue to use their name but will not be THE Bioware.

Feel bad for the company, SW:TOR, and msot of all any hope I had for a new Baldur’s gate or Dragon Age. :(

I wish we knew the real reason they left the company.  Did EA force them out for the perceived poor performance of SW:TOR?  Were they disappointing in themselves?  Were they fed up with not being able to do what they felt they needed/wanted too?  Wish we knew the real story and not the PR spin.  I just hope Dragon Age 3, Mass Effect, and SW:TOR can survive this. =(

Bioware’s core and specifically the SWTOR team has really been gutted.  Wishing them all the best.

Its really sad news especially since DE was one of the important authors for BW’s more recent games and the story writing.  With DA3 coming out its going to be really different that hopefully it will still have a good development.

I wish the those who left the best as well as Bioware that they will be able to still produce the same quality of games as they did with ME and DA.

When it was announced that Bioware had been acquired by EA i’d be lying if i said i wasn’t a bit worried.

I thought Bioware could resist EA. I was wrong. EA has finally cannibalised one of my favourite developers and all i can say is that it’s a damn shame.

This Bioware is no longer the Bioware we all know and love, it’s but another name to the long list. I really hope all those who have left can go on and found another company, based on the standards and morals we’ve grown to love.

Hopefully there are enough responsible gamers who stop playing into EA’s game, as it is nothing but a blight on the industry and should not have this much power. It just shows they have no respect for the industry, their consumers, and their employees.

I guess it can be good to lose the lead designer and exec producer as clearly he/they were shit and made the game what it is.  Was fine, I enjoyed it, but then the issues just kept appearing that annoyed me.  Now I play Guild Wars 2 they are even more obvious.  The Auction House in SWTOR is mega shit, the crafting I thought was OK, now I can’t bare (so sold all my resources) and PvP at 50 is just a bore, it’s no fun getting rolled over by people out gearing you several times over.  PvP 10-49 is good and enjoyable but at 50 it’s just shit.

I’m not a massive MMO fan.  I’ve never played WoW and I like SWTOR when there was nothing else for me.  But now Guild Wars 2 is here (I never played the first), I enjoy it and it seems so much more polished than SWTOR.  And the updates are much better.  The little issues with the Trading Post there was, like not showing the sales tax etc, all now fixed.  SWTOR would of taken months to bother fixing that.

I wonder how easy he’ll find it getting another job in the industry, when everyone will point at him and say “Didn’t you manage that failed MMO swtor?”
