Only Vanilla Races are being worked on for character model upgrades
Blizzard Community Manager Draztal posted today in the EU forums, clarifying some information about the long-awaited character model upgrades:
Actually… the development team is working on new character models for the vanilla races. Unfortunately, we don’t have an estimate yet on when they’ll be available.
We already knew that Worgen and Goblins wouldn’t be receiving any changes in the character model rework, but the addition of Blood Elves and Draenei to that list is a surprise.
The vanilla races are arguably the worst off, those are the Humans, Night Elves, Orcs, Gnomes, Dwarves, Undead, Tauren, and Trolls. It seems reasonable to assert, I think, that the Draenei and the Blood Elves, while far from perfect, are largely the “pretty” races of the bunch at this point in time. Although, it has to be said that the male Draenei probably do not fall into that category!
It raises the question, what is the worst-looking character model in the game right now? I would have to give that to the male human model. As we discussed recently here on GAMEBREAKER, graphics which lean towards realism can sometimes be tricky to maintain, and as the closest of any of the WoW races to humans, the, well, human race has fallen well and truly foul of this maxim. Male human models have bizarre hair options, strange animations, an awful, if entertaining dance, and oven mitts for hands.
But perhaps you disagree, and think there are other races out there with bigger issues? Or, like me, you really wish they’d just change Worgen to get rid of the pesky sniffling!
