Arenanet Announced Official Guild Wars Launch Times

August 28^th, 2012—the day Guild Wars 2 launches—is fast approaching. Everyone here at ArenaNet is anxiously counting the days right along with every Guild Wars 2 fan. In just a few weeks, the servers will go live and each of us will be setting out on our adventures in Tyria!

As you may have seen, we host a countdown timer on the front page of our official website. The information below will give you specific details about times and dates based on whether you pre-purchased, pre-ordered, or are picking up a copy of the game on release day.

Pre-Purchase with 3-Day Headstart: Everyone who pre-purchased Guild Wars 2 will enjoy three full days of Headstart Access. The three-day Headstart Access will officially begin at 0:00 AM Pacific time (GMT -7:00) on August 25^th. However, please note that in order to ensure that we’re fully prepared for that fateful hour we may bring servers online up to 3 hours prior. If you’re a player committed to getting in first to grab that character name of your dreams you’ll want to be keeping an eye on things during that time period.

Pre-Order with 1-Day Headstart: Those who pre-ordered Guild Wars 2 will be able to participate in one day of Headstart Access. The one-day Headstart Access will begin at 0:00 AM Pacific time (GMT -7:00) on August 27^th. NOTE – Pre-Order code registration is now enabled.

For those players who have not pre-purchased or pre-ordered the game, Guild Wars 2 will officially launch at 0:00 AM Pacific time (GMT -7:00) on August 28^th.

Download the Client today: If you’ve registered your pre-purchase or pre-order and created your Guild Wars account you can go to account management today and download the client. Be sure to update the client periodically to minimize your download at launch.

    Oh, thanks, yeah midnight is 4pm for me in uk so im not too fussed, kinda pissed im working sunday though =/, Im not good with names so I’ll probably end up with some random sting of letters because I took to long trying to think of a good name, although GW character names are saved so might be okay (Y)

        Yeah the (GMT -7:00) can be confusing. What it means is that their time is 7 hours behind/less than GMT. Good luck with sorting the sleep out….but hey at least you get to play it. I can’t convince my daughter to move her wedding! :p

        Daylight saving time. I live in the netherlands. If im correct, you guys are still on GMT +1 at the moment. We in the netherlands at GTM +2.
        
        I know the headstart will officialy begin at 9 AM. So take 3 hours of that and its 6AM for me. For your times just extract 1 more hour.
        
        So to answer your question. Midnight over there, is saturday 8AM for you.

        Please be careful not to confuse people further. The time zone is always GMT for the UK and GMT+1 for Italy, etc. Then there is a separate calculation for Daylight Saving Time, which is a further +1 at the moment since it’s summer here.

        Yea you are right. I should have used BST.
        Not that i want to confuse stuff further here, But i have no clue how chiggz got to 7 am over there.
        as far as i can work out, the official headstart time for us is 9 am. So that would mean 8 am for people in UK. IF you want to wait those 3 hours, that should be 6 AM for us, and 5 for UK right?

cuz i get all kindes of diffrent times, thus it gets a bit confusing :s

  You are 1 hour ahead of the UK and we are currently in BST, which is 1 hour ahead of GMT. So 00.00 pacific time is 8am for us and 9am for you.

This is why I love ArenaNet… Little things like this statement:

this is great assuming we will actually be able to get in 3 hrs ahead of time and not 1 minute ahead of time (unlikely but still within the realm of possibility). this will make the release party/cast really, really awesome as people don’t have to stay awake longer to see it, though i highly doubt there will be much sleeping going on for that whole weekend anyway.

Honestly WTH ArenaNet…. why dont they ever stick to a schedule. so now we are all going to have to spam log in button and refresh like morons hoping to get in so we can have the names we want. First of all my time zone is EST so if they started normally it would be 3AM my time so i am not bothered by the time, its just the stupidity involved in me spamming the log in button so i can get a character name i planned months ago. if they announce a time thats how it should be.

none of this Oooh we MIGHT open servers up early…so just keep spamming until you get in. Please dont get me wrong i love this game, i will be playing it for many years to come. i just want it to be fare… everyone should be able to know when exactly the servers will open up so they all start off same time so they can choose the character name they want. ugh… sorry i am just really frustrated by this.

  I donno about you but I plan on taking my time with this one so I will be getting a full nights rest. When I wake up around 6 – 7 am The late nighters will for the most part be logging off or in another zone.

    i was only talking about the ability to be able get the character name you want. For instance once the servers open up, millions of people are going to be logging in and creating characters. if you show up late to the party, the character name you want, or been playing to have for your main char might already be taken. so i dunno if i made my point clear in my previous post about it, or you just read it wrong.

      If you have GW1 and want those names, then you just needed to log into the character by the end of July. Those original names from GW 1 are reserved for you.

        Ya, i already knew about that.but i never got into GW1, was not my cup of tea. besides in GW1 people must have 2 word names and those are the only names that were being resserved. for GW2 you are allowed to have single word names and all single word names are avaliable and are unique across all servers.

  I wouldn’t stress man. I know its confusing and a little awkward, but once the servers go up I’m sure everyone and their grandma will let you know. Plus once you actually get in the game I bet you’ll forget what you were raging about lol. I’m on the East Coast too, so to be honest I’m all for not having to wait until 3 am to get on(was going to regardless, but now I may not have to.) it’s ok dude…breathe

      What is this “considering Arenanets track record” about? They have 2 games for which I’ve had no delay on at all. If you are talking about the beta and stress test login problems with the first hour not being able to play… It’s frickin beta…..

        I was talking about their excellent track record, and customer service and listening to their player base more than any other company out there. geez… people if anyone gives negative feedback towards GW2 everyone is just gonna jump on you…. GUYS I LOVE THIS GAME dont get me wrong… but i just dont like this process of spam clicking log in button…
        
        P.S Also, i havent had any negative experience in Beta, i understand its beta. i was one of those people on Guru forums telling people to claim down regarding fps issues and any other issues, because i believe in ArenaNet and i trust them. This is one of the most polished games i seen in Beta-Phase ever. they have a great product here.

        to be fair it should be fairly easy to get the names you want considering first name and last name stuff unless your are copying the names from like movie/video game characters. Wouldnt stress about it.

The 3 hour bit is obviously a ploy to get people tired from clicking on the login button for 3 hours so they will be too tired to play. This way server load with be lower. :p

  I hate to say it but you should have known better. Gamestop was selling pre-orders and pre-purchases before they actually went on sale, and without Arena Net’s consent, and because of that you may not ever get a code and Arena Net has no obligation to give you one. Basically Gamestop had no idea what they were doing, and admitted as much to some customers who asked about the codes ahead of time only to hear “there is nothing in the system about that” and the like. So in a nut shell; if you pre-ordered through Gamestop too early you’re not getting a code, because you didn’t actually pay for an official pre-order. Gamestop screwed you.

  A friend of mine prepurchased at gamestop and they had a code on his receipt that he had to redeem at gamestops website. After he got that done with he had to download there game installer just to get the code for GW2 lol then he downloaded the client.

  Pre-purchase is when you pay for the game in full ahead of time.
  
  Pre-order is when you reserve a copy, but don’t pay until the game is released.

Pre-Purchase is just putting money down on the game before launch. Pre-Purchasing is buying the whole game regardless of it being released or not
