Another month, another MMO company being hacked.
This time, it’s Cryptic Studios who suffered “unauthorized access to one of our user databases.” The breach occurred all the way back in December 2010 and has just been discovered.
Cryptic Studios insists no identifiable credit card data was pilfered, saying that only
the first and last name, e-mail address, date of birth (if provided to Cryptic Studios), billing address, and the first six digits and the last four digits of credit cards registered on the site may have been accessed.
And there’s no information that anything that may have been stolen has been used inappropriately.
Still, it makes you wonder: What took so long?
Perhaps if stolen data had been used it would have triggered alarms earlier, but it’s still a little disconcerting to realize that one’s account data could have been misused for over a year.
