Last night, Sony and Blizzard threw their hats into the ring together, announcing that Diablo 3 would be released on the PS3, as well as the upcoming PS4. What does this mean for Blizzard’s Titan?
Looking back at our earlier piece dividing the rumors from the fact when it comes to Blizzard’s Titan, the secretive project under development for years, one of the more persistent and interesting rumors was that Titan could be released cross-platform. The forum poster, Alphanoid, who really set the rumor mill rolling with this information asserted in one of his posts that the developers at Blizzard already had Xbox developer packs, and were working on making the new game cross-platform.
While we previously listed that rumor as interesting but unsubstantiated, does this latest announcement mean that Blizzard’s Titan could actually be coming to a Playstation near you? It certainly seems far more likely now than ever before, given Blizzard’s history of PC game design. But that history can now be discounted, so was Alphanoid right about the console-based direction, but wrong about the console, or should we also expect a release on Xbox 720 to be announced before the year is up?
Of course, this is all speculation without any hard facts, but the porting of Diablo 3 onto PS3 and PS4 is a definite clue that Blizzard are pushing their games into the console market. Could this be the influence of console gaming giant Activision?
And importantly, what are you hoping for? Do you want to see Blizzard’s hotly anticipated title on the PS4, or even the new Xbox? And how will that work with the release schedule? No release of Titan is expected this year, so it might just fit in with the position of being something on the horizon for Sony.
