Ranked Warzones Didn't Get Past Test For SWTOR Update 1.2

Sorry, folks, we know you were looking forward to being able to show that you were the best PvPers on the server in Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen this time around.

Ranked warzones were scheduled to launch today with Update 1.2: Legacy, but the players from on the public test server issued great suggestions and bug fixes. So BioWare designed to hold back on releasing this part of the update until later.

How much later?

Lead Game Designer Daniel Erickson explained in a blog post on SWTOR‘s website: “In the future we’ll be rolling the Ranked Warzone Preseason out in phases, listening carefully to player feedback and making adjustments as we go. The first phase will be full team, eight-player queuing only and from there we’ll look at next steps as Preseason progresses.”

Testing does do some good. Unfortunately, that also means things need to be held back sometimes. Here’s hoping that the roll out comes soon and not “soon™”.

I can’t wait to prove how much I pwn face — or not…

To top things off, the game will be offline for most of the day today because of some issue with the morning patch. Community Manager Stephen Reid posted this morning:

During last night’s maintenance, some areas of the game were reverted to pre-Game Update 1.2 status. Some areas were ‘missing’ and characters that were in those areas would be unavailable. We took the live servers offline at approx 9:30AM CDT (Austin time).

Our server and deployment teams are now working to rebuild assets for the live servers, but this is unfortunately not a quick process. We currently estimate that our downtime could be up to eight hours, but that time may be extended.

I dont understand their idea here. Im supposed to resub to this game that i unsubbed the first month, that theyre now giving free time away on so i can grind gear so i can compete in ranked warzones with no spectator mode or plans for it and no stated plans for esport? If i wanted to do that wouldnt i just play WoW where Ive already got the gear or wait for GW2 who will have spectator and esport? How could they have possibly tanked an IP this big this badly.

Looking forward to GW2 WvW (already pre-purchase).  Not sure how it will be a esport and didn’t think esport/spectator mode would be at launch.

GW2′s WvW will not be an eSport, though it would be cool if they figured out a way to do so in the future.

The Structured PvP matches are what will be used for the eSports side of things, but there won’t be a spectator mode at release though they’re working on it.

I spent a huge chunk of my time in swtor pvp’ing….  and it’s certainly not esport worthy.  Sub-par pvp is the reason they never got a sub out of me in the first place.

Here’s hoping gw2 will cure that itch for me.

    • Azzras

      No spectator mode in GW2.

On launch. There was a spectator mode in Guild Wars 1, there will be a spectators mode in Guild Wars 2 as well. The game has taken long enough to come out…there’ll be time to play and learn your classes before the spectator mode comes out, so when it does come out, it won’t be completely dreadful.

I’m OK with this sooo far, because of the other stuff that did get released but hopefully this will come out within a month.

GB do yourself a favor, and cancel anything that has to do with BW EA and all of their products in the future, You won’t go wrong with that decision.

  • ChristopherRuscoe

Has nothing to do with the date and everything to do with Bioware / Electronic Arts misques. This is silly man, they are going to incure the same issues every time they patch. Their coding is so fubared right now..

You really could’ve had money on this happening and it would’ve been a come up..

I think is great that they are giving everyone with legacy lvl 6 30 days of free time, too bad you guys just mentioned as a footnote and focused on all the bad things.

    • Shaddoe

That information literally came in as we were recording.

It’s ok, I suppose showing a trainwreck attracts more viewers than talking about the good stuff :P

That’s me pretty much done with SWTOR now. I would have resubbed to check out rated warzones & would have given the game another chance. My interests have now wandered elsewhere to the upcoming MMO’s coming out this year. PvP in SWTOR has so much potential, but it seems to me Bioware has no idea where to go with PvP in this game. One only needs to experience Ilum to realise this.

Its Not the Jesus patch… Its a very naughty Boy!

SWTOR seems to be fail after fail. I had so much hope for it but was very disappointed with the constant poor quality. I would expect more than that from a game developer as big as EA Games…

  • Damir Miric

I think that they are not going with ranked pvp is 2 reasons:

Class imbalance is terrible and there are not enough players.

  • Revanhavoc

Another forseen dissapointment. But who is surprised?

  • darkrevan

they think they are going to get someone to resub with this mess of a patch  gl!!!

Well, ran 4 or 5 WZs this morning.  Got 149 warzone commendations of the 93,000 I will need to upgrade my full Battlemaster gear to War Hero gear.  The reduced commendations for losses, has lead to more players dropping from a WZ if it falls behind. Ran my first match of the new WZ, we got two capped, three players dropped out and we got three capped. Never capped two towers and earn a single point.  Will be interesting to see over the next free 30 days, if all those matches will be blowout wins or blowout losses.

Is it QQ if its justified?

I’d really love to see this term retired.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bruce-Fauble/1466377126 Bruce Fauble

      Is it really justified?

The ranked warzone feature was tested on the PTS . The PLAYERS ON THE PTS said there was stuff wrong with it or that it didn’t feel right.

BW decided to LISTEN TO THOSE PLAYERS and go back and tweek things. Instead of delaying the launch of 1.2 even more, they just pulled the feature.

So now what you have are the players who were not participating on the PTS complaining that the feature was pulled, but they never saw any of the testing or feedback.

I would say yes, people are QQing and no, it is not justified.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1151407861 Trey Alsup

You’d have a point if this game had something as basic as character transfer to PTS. Expecting paying customers to level characters to test the game is, well, not smart.

PS I’m mostly protesting the term QQ- In vain I know, but its such a dismissive way to not engage an argument. In the forums if someone uses the term QQ, I can’t help but downgrade their opinion. I think GameBreaker should inspire a higher level of dialogue, though in this case I think they were using it mostly ironically. (not sure about you though Bruce :) )

You can argue that Bioware is being responsible by not implementing a feature that is not ready for primetime. It just happens to be THE feature that the PvP community was waiting for.

When a product doesn’t have the feature you want, you don’t buy the product. It’s not like ranked warzones were the result of wishful thinking by the playerbase. It was something advertised to be in the update by Bioware and then removed the day before the patch went live.

People have a right to be upset. Bioware acknowledges that- hence the 30 free days.
