They’re not targeting EVE fans at all, but console shooter fans, something you can read in any interview. They’re two independent games and dust can be played with no eve interaction, if that’s what players want.

Shooting from/into orbit is for the “hardcore” players that play with a group and want the full gameplay experience. And for the ones that get involved in dust/eve politics or metagaming.

It probably won’t be as popular or good as other FPSs coming out. On the other hand CCP said they’ll follow the normal MMO development of constantly working on the game, so it’s a very good chance it will live a lot longer than most of it’s competition. Being free increases the chance of getting new player on every major update.
