SilentFuture Revives Earthrise For 2012 Relaunch

Oh Earthrise, we hardly knew ye. But soon, we may know ye again.

German development studio SilentFuture has announced the acquisition of Masthead Studios‘ promising but flawed sci-fi MMORPG — redubbing it Earthrise: First Impact — with an eye toward re-releasing it as a F2P game in Q4 2012.

SilentFuture also promises to “revamp many of the systems used in Earthrise and to adjust the game world accordingly,” while also reworking the game’s story so that players are not in a post-apocalyptic world but actually experience the apocalypse for themselves.

It sounds like an awfully ambitious plan for less than a year’s work of development — Earthrise shut down in February 2012 — and Earthrise was already considered by many to be an unfinished, unrefined, and buggy mess upon its 2011 launch.

But it also showed a lot of promise, and had fans excited — at least until they played it. Perhaps the additional year of development time will be enough to turn the game into a quality experience.

What do you think? Did you play Earthrise when it came out? Do you think you’ll try this new edition?

2 things…. first… why would anyone try a failed/died mmo again… second… specially with sooooo many new mmo’s on the horizon? Coz it will be free? I highly doubt it, they are flooding the market with f2p games in any genre…. my opinion is this… as good as candy is, if you eat too much of it, it will make you sick

ABP:Reloaded that failed at release and the company went in to administration and was brought out and is still going…so its not like it cant not be done, it just depends how they go about it, they need to learn from the mistakes and fix the problems that coursed it to fail

You can fix anything with the right tools

Sony managed to salvage something out of Vanguard and we saw APB do something like that too. It will be interesting if this starts to become something more common in the MMO genre.
