Elder Scrolls Online PvP Head Talks About Stealth, Monster AI

Rev3 Games conducted an interview with The Elder Scrolls Online‘s Head PvP Designer Brian Wheeler at E3, who revealed a few new tidbits of info that are sure to have expectant fans drooling.

Stealth won’t just be the purview of “sneaky” characters, like thieves and rogues. In keeping with Elder Scrolls tradition, everyone will have the ability to sneak — though some will undoubtedly be better than others — just as any character will be able to use any weapon, as well as block or sprint.

Additionally, a little info was leaked regarding monster AI. Wheeler says that monsters will act intelligently, “like players act in PvP,” with mages backing off to create distance and fighters running up in your face. Does this mean that monsters will have access to the same skills and abilities as players? Could be.

The PvP designer didn’t have much to say about PvP, other than that it would be massive, with 100-200 players partaking in battles in the central province of Cyrodiil, which will have several features that Oblivion players will recognize. Maybe we’ll finally get to see a non-trashed Kvatch?

    wow….that’s a terrible idea

I always liked and favored (typical to) FPS game style stealth mode for any game. I really, really hate the way it works in the “WoW-like” MMORPGs.

One way I would design a “stealth” mechanic in game around (kind of already had).

If done right this could be very interesting.

That’s refreshing.   I hate the way stealth is typically done in MMOs.   I’ve seen too many instancesof in stealth class idiots running off from the group to ‘scout’ (aka ninja loot) or simply waste everyone else’s time because they’re busy having their stealth-fun jollies.

Giving it to everyone sounds like a good way to prevent this issue.   It could also help with balancing in PvP.

    Loving the info.
