En Masse Announces No-Download TERA Demo

For those of you who have been considering trying out TERA but are wary of dropping cash on it, EnMasse has some good news for you.

EME believes that once you play TERA you’ll be hooked, so in order to prove their point they’ve launched an “instant” demo. The demo is available on a cloud platform and can be streamed, eliminating the fuss of downloading the client.

This may make some people pop in and check out the game for a second time. The company has been paying attention to player feedback and has listed the following changes as a result of that.

The first changes are two the game’s two tank classes — the warrior and the lancer — Both classes will gain new skills and will benefit from a change to defensive skill that will have them consume a new resource instead of MP.

To celebrate the improved tanks, EME is adding two new instances as well.

And, for those who have been waiting for it, 15 vs. 15 cross server PvP battlegrounds are on their way.

According to EME this is just a portion of the stuff they are adding or changing. I guess we’ll just have to wait to see everything they have planned.

I tried this thing out, it managed to make the prologue even worse than it already was. Even people who pay for and play the game agree this thing is horrible. I really don’t understand what they were going for here.

I actually played tera demo On gaikai and it ran rather well Better than onlive I’d say. Lord of the rings online has had this for a while I think you get to play for 1 hour before your game is done downloading.

I really loved the combat in this game and the rest of it was not too bad, but here is what killed this game for me..The community is by far the worst ive played in mmorpg and ive played alot of them. On top of that right now the only viable tank is the lancer period. And because of the extreme high demand for them for dungeon qeues they can pretty much dictate verything. They kick classes that can or do roll on gear they want, they pretty much run the show and im just not ok with that.

And yes i leveled lancer up to 37 through the dungeon qeue mind you. Great combat decent enough of the game but the god awful community ruined for me. On the other hand it led me try play Rift one of the best communitys in a long time.

  That’s because people have brought their personal crusades and conflicts into this game. Company is no different since they cater to these type of “communities” off from trashy games or low-end spec games.
  
  Tera is like a new toy truck that’s been ran into the mud, beaten, then repackaged as “new and exciting” to feed the non-console masses. It’s a wonder why trolls and smartasses cling to this game because of the amount of smartasses and over-serious people in it obsessing over this game and it’s characters. It’s like a magnet for jerks because people act like jerks in it instead of allowing people to play they want to play.
  
  Can’t call themselves “fans” and beat up on their own product. I’ve seen better behavior from GW2 fanboys than Tera’s childishly spoiled hypocrites.

This demo was absolutely terrible. The demo comes nowhere near the graphical fidelity of the real game. It looks like you are literally playing through a 240p youtube video. Just do an actual demo to a certain level, not this sub-par garbage. I’ve played the actual game, and this demo is just totally pathetic in comparison.

  Demo is just there for a quick-fix sale. I’ve played it and become bored as hell in 10 minutes.

Call me crazy but I would much rather have a seperate server for just trial users to level up from 1-20 with any class then if they buy the game they can transfer to a normal server of their choice.

The demo is poor way of trying to sell the game. I havnt played the actual game, I just tried the demo the other day. I am guessing the demo pales in comparison to the game in many ways.

I am thinking a demo or free trial is suppose to show off the best parts of the game. This one does not in my opinion. It actually turned me off more than I already was…

I also wasnt too excited about being 20th level with a bunch of skills and less than an hour to play the game. I think I tried it 3 times before I finally figured everything out and was able to fight the big guy at the end of the demo(I assme it was the end)

I certainly hope this is not the wave of the future for mmo free trials.

gave it a try, my eyes are bleeding now >.> if there was a way to set the resolution to something higher than what looked like 800×600, i musta missed it. Couldn’t read anything, it was that bad, quest text, tooltips, nothing.

Only reason i could figure out any quests is because they used the same type of markers everyone else does, or because there was only one path to take. Combat was just button mashing since i had no idea what anything did, one flurry of hits looked like it did pretty much the same thing as the next. Didn’t even make it off of the tutorial island before i quit.

If your gonna try to sell me on a game, at least make your demo playable.

Very nice feature. I knew what was coming, but I was surprised by HOW MUCH this tutorial could put me off. Closest similar experience: Hellgate London.

To those who were/will be bored with the demo: It briefly gets fun here and there but is otherwise completely boring, at least for the 30+ levels I grinded through before unsubbing and uninstalling.

and judging from the empty servers i’d say most did the same,
