EVE Online Passes 500K Subscribers Worldwide
2 Comments

After 10 years of continued Growth CCP has announced that EVE online has passed the 500K subscriber mark.

Developer and publisher CCP Games is pretty excited right now as their flagship game EVE Online has passed the 500k subscriber mark.  The game, which recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary and released it’s 18th free expansion has always seen steady growth.  However, this is the first time they’ve been over the 500k mark.

It is important to note that since this number is world wide, it does include those playing on the separate Chinese server as well as the single western server we are all familiar with. That said, it’s still very impressive that any MMO has continued to grow throughout a ten year lifespan rather than see subscription drops.

CCP’s CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson had this to say about EVE Online passing the 500K subscriber mark:

Ten years after release, it is incredibly inspiring that, through a lot of hard work from our EVE Online team, we are crossing the half-million subscriber mark. For me, this is a true testament that EVE can live on forever, as long as we do right by her. We have not come to this point alone; millions of players have helped push us to this milestone. I now know in my mind what I previously only believed in my heart: that EVE will outlive us all.

CCP has decided to celebrate EVE Online’s 10 year anniversary throughout the year with a “Second Decade” theme.  The celebration will begin in April during the EVE Online Fanfest in Reykjavik, Iceland and will continue with the official birthday celebration on May 6th.

Something special at PAX east.

For those of you who didn’t get tickets to Fanfest before they sold out, the good news is that CCP will be holding a special event featuring EVE Online and Dust 514. The developer will be announcing the next EVE Online expansion and will hold a special event that — according to CCP — will shape the lore of both games from here on out.

According to an article on VentureBeat, CCP Games chief marketing officer David Reid has stated that:

This is another thing we’re doing to reward and fan the flames of our community. Our players are going to get a chance to get their hands on the game and make history in the EVE universe.
It will be interesting to see what CCP has in mind for this event since the game is known for players not only shaping but making history within it. I’ll be waiting patiently to hear from those of you who got to attend.
And, in the meantime. Congratulations to CCP and the EVE Online devs!

    Congrats!

I used to play EvE as it’s crafting system is truly out of this world, but the tolerance of theft of RMT items was the deal breaker for me to continue playing. Without that theft tolerance, I’d still would be playing today. Gorgeous scenery and appropriate music tops it off.
