Drew Karpyshyn, influential writer on many BioWare projects, has announced his retirement from the company via his blog. Karpyshyn’s first major assignment for BioWare was on Baldur’s Gate II: Throne of Bhaal, released in 2001.
Since that time, gamers have enjoyed his work on Neverwinter Nights, Jade Empire, and Star Wars: The Old Republic, as well as being the lead writer on Mass Effect and co-lead writer on Mass Effect 2.
An accomplished novelist, Karpyshyn has authored books set in the Forgotten Realms, Mass Effect, and Star Wars universes. The November 2011 release of Revan is his most recent published work, which reveals the events between Knights of The Old Republic and SWTOR.
As he explains on his website, Canadian Karpyshyn broke into game writing by answering a submission call from Wizards of the Coast, which led to his first novel Temple Hill.
Fans of Karpyshyn’s The Old Republic work still have one more unannounced novel to look forward to, after which he will be focusing on writing personal projects.
