Star Wars: The Old Republic Changes Its Look

Star Wars: The Old Republic operated its website in pre-launch mode for nearly four years.

Apparently the community team felt it was time to kick off those old clothes and try on a new look for the post-launch crowd.

Late Monday night, SWTOR.com dropped off line for 11 hours for its usual maintenance; however, when it came back online the whole site had changed — “from the ground up,” according to the official article.

Besides the snazzy and easier-to-use interface, the community team promises to bring more functionality to the site as well.

First on the docket, are the 17 flashpoints. Each one of these group instances received a spiffy page of its own, outlining the story behind the encounter. The SWTOR community team promises there are more additions coming to the site like guild functionality, character profiles, and more.

What do you think of SWTOR.com’s facelift?

if users could track their HM and Operations that they have completed and the gear they aquired through them… THAT would make this site change useful.

Thank god. Any entry-level web designer knows a professional website shouldn’t be 95% Flash.

Hey Larry, I think they knew about the new studio Gamebreaker was getting and they didnt want to be overshadowed, so they redesigned their website :P

Love the facelift! It was long overdue. Still not a fan of the server forums but the drop down menu allowing me to choose my server makes it a bit easier. If that drop down menu was there before I didn’t see it. Probably because I went to the server forums when they launched… threw up a little and never returned.

I wouldnt call adding a Guild Bank and UI customization a “Relaunch” as gamebreaker keeps saying, but I know those are very important feature for many many players and Im glad they got them.

I remember when Warhammer Online came out, it had Guild System, UI customization, a more functional Auction House, Add-Ons, Achievements and so on, but the game was not very succesful because the game at its core wasn’t very good, and all those extra features didn’t make the game better, so Im glad Bioware decided to focus on their game first, and the extra features later.
