SWTOR Patches Away The Rakghoul Plague

The Rakghoul plague has come to an end with Star Wars: The Old Republic‘s latest patch 1.2.1.

On top of that major change we also see some minor quality-of-life changes for players and specifically the Sniper and Gunslinger advanced classes.

Just as it began, the Rakghoul plague live event ended without a word.

But fear not, space traveler; Lead Designer Daniel Erickson recently told fansite Mos Eisley Radio that even though this might be the last time we see this particular event, this would not be the last live event we see for SWTOR. In fact, Erickson said that there is a whole team specifically dedicated to creating live events.

In addition to “curing” the Rakghoul plague, patch 1.2.1 increased the damage output of a handful of the Gunslinger and Sniper abilities. Unfortunately, this change does not help the recently nerfed Operative and Scoundrel.

Lastly, you can finally add friends to your friendslist if they are offline.

Thank the Force!

The live event did end with a word — Here:

And an ask for feedback about it by the lead designer:

Also, the plague hasn’t ended (on most servers). It seems to live through because of pvp warzones being inhabited by infected troops. Repeatedly. Which can turn annoying, because the infection lasts through death, whereas the rather pricey vaccine does not.

As a sniper who theorycrafts (have played about 6 different specs since patch 1.2) I have to say this was a good change. All the abilities that were buffed are able to be mitigated by armor, unlike poisons from lethality or lightning from sorcs. Marksman snipers were hurting in pve because bosses have armor, and in pvp, well, those abilities are also dodge/parry/absorb-able, again unlike sorc lightning or BH missles. So this little buff helped marksman snipers compete with the other 2 specs which had more tech abilities, as well as the other classes.

Sorcerer lightning is energy damage, which is mitigated by armor.  Sorcerer/Sage dps specs have no armor penetration ability and are in the same boat.

Interesting, just goes to show how much I know about sorcs, haha. I always assumed force abilities were the equivalent to our tech abilities. But it does make more sense for ranged classes to work similarly. Hopefully all sorc specs work out as well as the sniper ones have since this little patch, been having a lot of fun with my marks/engineering hybrid in hardmode EC.

if they can drop content in on the fly like that why is there weekly down time?

They still need time for hardware repairs, operating system updates, database maintenance and other  software updates.  Hotfixing content has become a standard feature, good to see BW using the feature.

How did the Rakghoul plague plague end?  lol, players started RPing their own ending, by saying, “There was not Rakghoul plague,” Jedi waves his hand.

Sounds like snipers and gunslingers are missing an armor penetration spec.  Will BW need to continue upgrading damage to overcome new armor sets?  Squishy healers in PVP are going to have a hard time with this change.

Was too busy playing firefall to even want to Log into Swotor,
sorry I missed the event.I, unlike many others, enjoyed the Plague events at the beginning of Wotlk.
