FFXIV Beta Date Announced

10 Days and Counting Until the Start of the FFXIV Beta

Square Enix is officially set to take the next step towards the re-release of their MMORPG FinalFantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (FFXIV). The FFXIV beta is set to start on February 25th and invites have already started going out. Fans of the series that already signed up for the beta should keep an eye on their email boxes over the next few days to see if they get their invite to the first closed beta phase. If you haven’t yet signed up for the FFXIV beta you can do so here.

If you’ve been keeping your eye on the FFXIV beta news we’ve posted here on GBTV, you’ll know that the 25th is actually about a week beyond the “Mid- February” start point Square Enix was originally targeting as the closed beta start date. In his 43rd Letter from the Producer, Naoki Yoshida says the additional week gave the FFXIV team the chance to add a few more features and character options in for beta testing.

This first phase of the FFXIV beta will focus on lower level play and only feature zones around Gridania. While testers will be able to play main story missions, they will become limited in availability around level 15 since that is when travel to other major cities is part of the main story. This means that side quests will be the primary leveling component post 15 and Yoshi-P admits that leveling may be a bit annoying around then since you don’t have the main story line available. Rest assured though that this is only a beta issue due to limited zone availability.

The guildhest system (formerly behest) will be available soon, if not at the beta’s start, Full Time Active Events (FATE) will also randomly occur in the world and all FFXIV beta testers are encouraged to jump in and provide feedback.

Looks like the push to the finish line is finally underway.

    Yay !!!

I never played the first release and I am glad I did not pay for it, but am interested in trying the game out now.  How about everyone else?

Oh yeah I am…but as the FFXIV writer if I had a different answer we’d have issues :)

I played up till they shut the servers down. It got better but I am happy to see the new  improved game we have coming. I stayed for the hardcore final fantasy community and friends I made while playing. I am glad that if you bought the game previously that you will automatically get the updated new release and another free month when it relaunches.

    Can’t wait!

I’ll give it a try when they just accept their fate and announce free-to-play. Trying to charge a subscription fee for a game literally so god awful it was canceled is so ridiculous it is insulting. I don’t care what kind of updates they claim to have made with this over hyped patch; the core game is still the same. They didn’t start over from scratch, they just tacked on some new stuff to their horrendous game. I think anyone that is expecting this to be some kind of fresh start for the title is going to be very disappointed.

On that note; anyone remember the last time an MMO tried such an update in the past? It was for a little game called Star Wars: Galaxies, and it didn’t go well.

Mis-information and ignorance of the highest order. Again, if you cant afford a sub then by all means, leave.

It is not just a patch…. whole environments, battle systems, questing systems have been redone. The game is way different now than it was back then, They have even new systems such as the Full Active Time Events (or FATE for short) which resemble Rifts random rift spawning.

You may need to do a lot more research on your information.

I might try it out. I haven’t played FFIV when it was out, so I cant comment on how it was. However based off what is known so far, A Realm Reborn seems promising.

After playing on v1 launch, and participating in the Alpha, I would absolutely give my recommendation to you to give it a shot.

I just want the finished product…

It’s the first thing Square Enix has done in years that I care about. Let’s get this over with and let me give you my money so we can both be happy lol.

be it either an unknown error or Cashiok, but the beta sign up page isn’t working for me and few others.
can it be closed or we can hope for an upgrade in next few days?

Watching to see how this game does will never buy.  Secretly hoping it to be the biggest fail of all time.

       what a douch

It likely will fail. Outside of the “hardcore” Final Fantasy XIV crowd noone is going to be willing to pay a sub fee for this after what happened the last time. And clearly those diehard fans were not enough to keep the game going. I predict abother SWTOR; free-to-play within a year.

I doubt it will go free-to-play within a year, whether it is good or not…

Maybe the website will be more english friendly this time.

okay all you beta testers, do your job well so we can get this puppy kicked out the door, pronto!
