10 Days and Counting Until the Start of the FFXIV Beta
Square Enix is officially set to take the next step towards the re-release of their MMORPG FinalFantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (FFXIV). The FFXIV beta is set to start on February 25th and invites have already started going out. Fans of the series that already signed up for the beta should keep an eye on their email boxes over the next few days to see if they get their invite to the first closed beta phase. If you haven’t yet signed up for the FFXIV beta you can do so here.
If you’ve been keeping your eye on the FFXIV beta news we’ve posted here on GBTV, you’ll know that the 25th is actually about a week beyond the “Mid- February” start point Square Enix was originally targeting as the closed beta start date. In his 43rd Letter from the Producer, Naoki Yoshida says the additional week gave the FFXIV team the chance to add a few more features and character options in for beta testing.
This first phase of the FFXIV beta will focus on lower level play and only feature zones around Gridania. While testers will be able to play main story missions, they will become limited in availability around level 15 since that is when travel to other major cities is part of the main story. This means that side quests will be the primary leveling component post 15 and Yoshi-P admits that leveling may be a bit annoying around then since you don’t have the main story line available. Rest assured though that this is only a beta issue due to limited zone availability.
The guildhest system (formerly behest) will be available soon, if not at the beta’s start, Full Time Active Events (FATE) will also randomly occur in the world and all FFXIV beta testers are encouraged to jump in and provide feedback.
Looks like the push to the finish line is finally underway.
