Star Wars The Old Republic Finalizes Consolidating Servers
18 Comments

Bioware has announced that tomorrow will be the final step to consolidating servers in their massively multiplayer game Star Wars The Old Republic.

Players have been aware of the move with a number of smaller jumps and the recent addition of new tech.

This is good news for players looking to find more buddies to stomp out the evil Republic or the good natured Empire.

For those wondering what will happen if they have more than eight characters when the servers merge, Bioware has stated in their new FAQ that a new character cap has been raised to 12 and those having more than 12 will be given additional room for their characters.

You may also want to check out the FAQ on how names, guilds, and friend’s list will be handle during this change.

Make sure to check out the change tomorrow and leave a comment below detailing your experience with this massive shift in community.

Too little to late though i think. Shame really.

I spent more time trying to figure out new names than actually playing,
    after the last server transfer.

    Unsubbed upon hearing this news,

I’ll be back when they realize an MMO based on a space opera should include Space PVP.

    Until then,

2nd round of server merges whoa…. I’m glad I skipped this one. More reasons why I never buy games bearing the “EA” logo.

That means no Dead Space? No Brutal Legend? No Mass Effect?

i feel for swtor i really do but this is just sad to me, two server mergers in less then a year…yes the first merger was on a voluntary basis but it was still a merger, and twice the number of times people have to rename their characters and legacy, they really need a new guy to reign in this bad press they keep giving themselves.

This is a great move.  This game has everything to be a great F2P title.  I play less and less due to GW2, but watch out.  When this flip the switch, A LOT of people will play this.

I am so glad they didn’t cash shop restrict the class stories lol

Really never played an MMO like this before.  It was amazing graphically and story line.  The PVP was INTENSE. Just too bad they didn’t run patches in time to save subs.  This was the main reason for the first “merger”.

The thing is, this server technology can take way more players, meaning more people can be on a server.

I think MMO_NUB really hit the nail on the head. BioWare didn’t release enough content quickly and it led many gamers (including myself) to quit and head on to different pastures. Heck, if a guy like me (who followed the game since October 2008, bought the Collector’s Edition, genuinely did enjoy the game while it had content I hadn’t done, and has been a Star Wars fan since the age of 3) quits, how do you expect to realistically hang on to the majority of your player base?

I have to agree. I was following the game when it was first announced, bought the CE and found myself a month after release feeling bored and misplaced :( But my ray of hope is in the F2P switch.

The problem is you have a very incompetent staff and EA thinks that tiger woods is more important then swtor. F2p wont save this game, server merges wont save this game,

If you want to save this game needs to be shutdown worlds remade into sandbox style. Gabe and james ohlen should have been fired yesterday just shit devs and worthless.

Hire arenet devs for pvp b/c gw2 has he best pvp team swtor does not despite what james ohlen believes lol.

Get rid of the kabuki power ranger crap armor and get rid of all the anime shit armor. This is star wars not rift. Lol seriously that armor was god aweful how that armor got greenlighted was beyond me. Btw all anyone really wants is black robes for sith and brown robes for jedis like seriously how hard is that to do? impossible apparently. You dont even get a robe when you hit the end of your story was just crap = ( im sure that will be in the store.

You ce people got screwed lol they havent put 1 new thing in the ce edition store and remember that bieng a huge deal. Now i see the ce in stores for 30 bucks or less….

they thought rerolling was going to make you stick around well you can reroll a 100 toons eventually your gonna have a lot of toons at endgame with very little to do shocking they still havent caught on to that 8 months in…

I used to defend the hell out of this game. I loved playing it. Now, I can’t even be bothered to play the free content (lvl 1-15) because I am so disheartened by the lack of engagement from the community. My guild dwindled to non-existance and the co-founders decided to make us a multi-game guild. That was the nail in the coffin for me because everybody that was worth half a crap went on to TSW, GW2, MechWarrior Online, or back to WoW.

This game could have been so epic (and in some aspects, it really was). It is unfortunate that the devs couldn’t keep up with player demand.

Different experiences, I suppose. My guild still hods weekly events, which have only ebbed as some of our younger members went back to college. You’re definitely right to say that community is everything though. But that’s almost less a failing of the game rather than a failing of the individuals in question.

You could say it for something like TSW as well. That game? Not really stellar. But if you have friends about…well, you get the point.

Beta was buggy, they didnt fix after. It becaem all about suppression of negative info instead of repaird. All promises to us that pre-ordered were broken- all info ERASED entire site was nuked and rebuilt. Game is hard to saty with buds and guild because the sharding. It feels like a single player. The community in general was not good. TSW is best game Ive seen out..but very limiter character creator considering only race is human. And it also has some sharding/separation problems. Solo instances can start separting your group if you have a dedicated support player.
Last few games were released early and bugy as “wow killers”. And only WoW can kill WoW.
Ill sub, I subbed CoH for 5 years straight and WoW until Cata. It was the COMMUNITY.  MMORPG is about community. and if they cant accomodate that-no long lasting MMOMs will rise

I hope the get the 12 character slots up and going soon, the way the FAQ is written it is like it is 12 already, but my account still only has 8 max on Dalborra (AP)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Shawn-Hargrave/100003202374593 Shawn Hargrave

so instead of 8 slots youll have 12 slots to get more toons to cap with very little end game? sigh..shakes head
